Hey guys,

Its time for me to get some oil temp/water temp/oil pressure gauges for my car. However I am confused, what types should I get, electrical or mechanical?

go electrical mate.

mechanical is a bit old school (albeit maybe more accurate?)

people used to run mecahnical gauges, but put mount them outside of the cabin on the bonnet.

mechanical allows the fluid to enter the gauge. mechanical should not be used inside the cabin.

should also stress that mechanical gauges are illegal, boost the exception i believe (or other air related ones)

spend an extra few bucks and get some decent brand gauges... autometer are good!

yeh i agree definatly go electronic, i would hate the idea of having oil or somthing like that in the back of a guage right in front of your face.

i saw pic of an evo in the uk from a few years ago that had a mechanical fuel pressure guage on the a pillar!! not good!

Excellent to hear guys, Just looking to fill the space under the stereo, as I have a double DIN at the moment but it has to go for something that isnt in Japanese and plays MP3s.

You can do what i did, I found some prices from the us including shipping.. added another 100 or so on top of it then went into autobarn and started bargaining!! it worked!!! save about 300 bux and only spent about 70 more than getting them os!!

Hmmm 600 bucks seems a little steep, might look into separate gauges again. Meek has din insert for like 30 bucks, fill it with 3 gauges and your a winner.

might sound expensive, but generally, semi-decent electrical gauges are around $150 each.

also, most electrical oil pressure gauges only go to 100psi, its not uncommon for our cars to peg the needle on the gauge, or even make the oil pressure sender fail.

Are you into your Audio gear? Autobarn had in there last cataloge a set of 4 guages that fit in a din size, I think they are volts, left and right audio signal (VU) and a temp tensor with a sensor (can be used for anything but was suggested to be used for amp temperature) at $99

I got a mechanical apexi el2 boost gauge, suits the gsr dash perfectly :)

I think autobarn has defi like gauges at a cheapish price? Not entirely sure on cost...
