Hi guys
I've been trying to find another early car to go with my 1 that I've had for ~15 years. Its a sickness :)

Just wondering what people think a good condition, modest (ie between 100-150k kms) mileage E3 is worth?

Mods obviously influence the value, but say just basic mods.

Thanks!

A decent one in NZ is 23-30k NZD these days.
Silver and white are the most common, while red, black and yellow are rarer hence they attract a higher price.

Here in Australia we don't have many genuine evo 3s especially ones that don't have butchered VINs. As you probably know most where brought in under the rebuild scheme or just have lancer VINs, hence it's hard to put a price on a personal import evo 3 because of this.

Yeah they seem to be very expensive in NZ, more so than other places. Currency has been smashed recently which might be a factor.

Yep seem like there are lots of bodgy ones. Far more than I thought, given that all the ads on here and gumtree seem to be either rebirths or rebuild VIC cars.

Its like anything else really....how much are you prepared to pay AND whats it worth to you.
Totally agree. Also down to the seller - most people that own the good ones (ie like us), tend to have had them for a while and have an emotional attachment/value premium.

The reason why they are expensive in NZ is because of the frontal impact standard laws that were introduced which stopped older cars being eligible for import over there. Apparently there's a loophole though. That, and the fact that 99% of all older EVO's in NZ have been thrashed and trashed to smithereens!

NZ was also the dumping ground for cars from Japan that were damaged and then repaired. Often poorly. Not to mention the odo' windbacks that still seem quite common.

The prime examples left in Japan are the ones I would be looking at. Sure, they may be expensive- but the best examples are mint and were obviously cared for by someone who gave a fuck. Personally, that's who I would want to buy a 20 year old+ car from!

^Theyre fuckin all over NZ, its sad,
desperate importers tryna screw a couple bucks extra outta the not so aware

Thanks for the replies guys.

I remember that rebuilds weren't able to be registered in NSW. But has anyone tired this recently? Or is it just an issue in the past? Ie if the car is registered interstate long enough, the RTA may no longer care?

No. If it has a REPV VIN...They wont have anything to do with it.
Thanks - thats what I always thought. But I wonder if anyone has actually tried recently - perhaps the rules have changed?
