Soooooo,

My RVR has developed a little oil leak. I can degrease the engine and within a few seconds of starting there will be drips of oil on the ground.

The leak is from the timing belt area so i removed the lower covers to have a look.

here are some pic's of what i found.

So it appears to be something on the balance shaft belt area. there is no oil on the timing belt at all.

if it was a VR4 engine i would say that when they did the timing belt change they forgot to use a little RTV on the balance shaft belt tensioner bolt?

Are there any other seals which would leak that badly in that area?

Cheers,
Craig.

seals

Grab a seal kit from meek

and replace the seals, obviuosly the one behind your balance shaft is the problem but while the belt is removed you might as well do the rest. I had the same problem with my rvr when it first arrived.Alternatively Melville Mitsubishi will get you one tomorrow if it is urgent and cannot wait for postage.

i have already ordered seals/belts/waterpump and bearings.

i am more curious if there is anything about the RVR front cover area which are tarps.

i.e. bolts that need RTV sealing because they tap into oil galleries or engine crank case.

Also, i noticed the crank angle sensor was a bit dirty, how should i go about cleaning that area? Just degrease and hose off?

seals

Just the normal stuff like rtv on the balance shaft tensioner, treat it like any other 4g63 at the end of the day. As for cleaning the area I pulled the crank angle sensor off and cleaned it by hand, then with cas still off degreased the entire area with biodegredable bicycle degreaser that is safe for rubber seals, I am sure there is something just as safe but cheaper from car parts stores but I had the other stuff lying around.

Cheers,

let the fun begin...
Yeah needs more fasts!
It is a mighty cool and quirky daily driver.
A few extra psi and maybe an exhaust and it will be hilarious.

Even room for an esky at you feet in the back what a great car!
