Whining sound

Is there a sound to listen out for when doing that?

nope but you shouldn't be able to move the wheel when holding it at 6 and 12 and pushing/puling each side push on 6 pull on 12 and alternate if it moves dead bearing

There's a bit of creaking but wouldn't say they move

From my own experience, if a wheel bearing is starting going bad, it can sound worse when you turn away from it (left turn, right hand bearing, right turn, left hand bearing) although if it's collapsed bad enough, turning is then irrelevant, it'll make that noise regardless.

Have you tried to check for play in each of the wheels?

before you do this ensure the cv nut is tightened to spec as a loose nut will allow some movement

strong possibility its got something to do with cambelt tensioner bearing or something along those lines lol.
