has anyone here ever taken a caliper apart? just give it a clean up and so forth? i heard the main problem with removing the caliper pots is getting them back in again because the seal needs to be in the right position or something or other. all i really need to do is just take it apart and clean the inside cos there is a couple of burr's and stuff there.
help would be great guys!
cheers

hardest part was getting both the pistons to pop out to rebuild them
other than that was easy

Put a block of wood in the calliper and put some compressed air (at low pressure) in the brake line and the pistons will pop out. The seal inside is a piece of cake, the hardest part I found was getting the wire clip on the dust seals back in. Its just fiddly, especially if your hands are covered in rubber grease.

thanks for that guys..im guessing this would be the same for a GTO 4 piston caliper? thinner piece of wood and same techinque?
cheers

yeh used the wood technique
pretty hard to get it to work when the pistons seized :/
just used a couple of pieces of wood and all was good

If you have 4 piston calipers do not split them in 1/2 as I have heard they will likely never seal back together properly and will therefore leak.
If you don't have compressed air you can also just leave them connected to the car and pump them out with brakefluid, just make sure you are gentle so when they pop out you dont get brake fluid everywhere!

I agree here from experience! makes it easier if you have someone helping you tho.

just make sure the piston seal is in the right way.

they have to go in a certain way so that it seals and helps the piston draw back, it is hard to tell
