Hi Guys,

I’m having some trouble with my Galant VR4 Aus spec 1990, I’ve rebuilt the engine about 9 months ago due to it throwing a leg through the balance shaft and have put as much as I can back to standard so that I can take it over the pits with less hassle. Below is what I have done to the engine.

Port/polish head, 1mm over size valves with stage 3 cams and adjustable HKS cam gears
Standard wisco piston and eagle rods
Block decked and honed
Crank shaft crack tested and polished
TD05 turbo rebuilt
Turbo smart BOV
New intercooler tubing. 2 1/4in hot side and 2 1/2 cold side.
Aftermarket front mounted intercooler 580x210x90
Walbro 255 fuel pump
Aftermarket exhaust manifold
3in exhaust
450cc blue fuel injectors cleaned and tested
Motec M4 computer
Coil on plugs set
Balance shafts removed
New oil pump
New alternator

Everything else on the galant is standard, which leads me to my problem.... the dam thing just won’t idle. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

has the Motec been tuned for the new engine?

"Port/polish head, 1mm over size valves with stage 3 cams"

thats just going to be lumpy as hell!

Yes...
Get it tuned...

You are also risking a bad run in without a tune. If rich, you could be washing your bores down with fuel which will glaze the bores and not allow the rings to bed in.

The engine may suffer from oil consumption and blow by.

Very critical for a good healthy engine and must be done early!

Ok thanks,

I have noticed that the car is running rich and you can smell fuel in the engine oil. I havent driven the car anywhere yet because I haven't be able to get it to idle. Can I get the ecu tuned off the car?

I'm in Perth. I've downloaded the software from motec and have hooked it up to my car just to have a look at the settings but haven't changed anything. I have also posted on the motec forum asking if anyone had a base/run in tune settings so that I could do it myself.

if this is still a problem ...this might help you.

Thanks for that Brian but not need.

Im running a Motec ecu in my galant and the ics isn't hook up to the computer it runs a map sensor
instead so I removed the idle control valve from my throttle body and just blocked it off. Now I just
adjust my idle with the biss screw.

I was having troubles with my idle because off my worked head with 280 cam and because my motec
wasn't set up/tuned for it. I have since thrown my recond standard head back on and she runs like a
dream but I still need to get it tuned.

I still have a few more little things left to do to the car before I can take it over the pits, so hopefully
in a month or so it'll be back on the roads.

Im going to do a write up about my build and post some pic but I cant load any pics????:-(
Ill keep trying.

Use the 'More reply options' page and down the bottom is the 'attach files' button. Make sure your pictures are no bigger than 1024x768 ish or you just get the too lager message. (I do any way)

If you get that to work, and then work out how to post something bigger than a thumbnail................let me know!! drives me nuts. As an example, this is that mani I was talking about........... as a thumbnail!!
