I remember people were talking about the cheap two poster hoists from china on here a few months ago.

My gf's uncle servises hoists for a living and i was talking to him about them.

He said his insurance has made him sign a form to say he wont even touch one of the chineese hoists. If he does no insurance.

So they must have caused a fair ammount of accidents.

Like he said you dont want to skimp on something that holding a 1.5 ton car over your head. So buy somthing you trust! Or even a quality one out of a closed down mechanics worshop and get it serviced first.

thamstown market on sunday mornings trav. check it out.

Lawrence brought up a pretty good point. 3phase would be superior, but would require you to install 3phase at your house.

and some areas wont have 3 phase available...

In most suburban areas, 3 phase to a residential address is illegal. the zoning would have to "Multi-Use 1" or 2 rather than "Residential 1" which most of melbourne is. It also SERIOUSLY affects your house insurance (We had to change our entire insurance scheme when 3phase was connected here). Council may also crack the shits with you having a hoist as it's one of those serious pieces of equipment that you get when people are thinking of setting up shop. So i'd ask the local council if they have any stupid bylaws about it.

Whats wrong with a jack!!
You could easily run a hydraulic hoist off 240 volt motor, just would be hard pressed to find one like that, you would have to get a different motor fitted
OR there is transformers available that step up single phase to 3 phase, just will work a bit slow,( a mate of Mine had one of these to run a 2 post hoist in his garage)

most house central air cons are phase 3 these days, but its going into the back of a shop so its classed as industrial

I will try graysonline now bud cheers Polo

when is the thomastown market on Alex?

I dont want a cheap one, I would rather spend the cash and have safety first, most of the 2nd hand workshop stuff has been up and down 10,000 times

A Jack, and Im getting lazy :)

RADUM is the place to go Trav, I bought my hoist from them which is 4.2 tonnes lift, single phase for $2.800. They sell a scissor lift but not sure on details apart from it has a 2.4 tonne lift and is single phase for $2,500.
They have a branch in Melbourne and one in Hobart:thumbsup:
