After driving my vr4 down the coast yesterday, those concrete roads on the M1 shit me . Everythime you go part a guard rail or another car goes past, you hear all these strange noises and think the bloody car is about to fall apart. The car was bouncing around everywhere due to the bumps in the road and every now and then it would vibrate badly due to the corrugations (I assume they are for drainage) in the concrete surface. The dipshit engineer that designed that road certainly doesn't drive a performance car.

HAHAH, you sound so much like me

I just sent my application in to Main Roads for Materials Pavement Engineering (no joke) so If i get in, ill be addressing such issues!!!!!! or at least tyring

Your right, the pavement surface is shit to drive on.

Just wondering what the estimated time of completion of the cruise will be because i have just found out i have to work that night from 5pm?

Where do you have to be at by 5pm? (suburb)

It shouldnt be a problem.

I remember studying that sort of crap at Uni, it got much more interesting when we started calculating the friction coefficients of the different surfaces and working out braking distances and cornering G forces for each type.

I know the feeling, drove from sunnybank to wet'n wild yesterday and i was hearing all these weird noises praying the car wasnt falling apart (though in my case it probaly was). also had to deal with some skyline cruise numpties using all four lanes side by side at one point.

I havent got quite that far yet, though ive done plenty on steel and concrete.

Bloody hell mate! if i had've known i wouldve organised something for you

Im working at Movieworld/wet n wild.

WTF.

just dropped in on the last page of posts? I'm not 100% sure of what you are taking about but STOP IT!

Hey! almost had to cancel me coming to the cruise!
had a strange noise coming from the turbo this morning (all of a sudden)

popped the intake off and the comp wheel wasn't turning very freely, bearings felt shot!
Checked the oil feeds and drains etc all good!

ripped it of to take it to the guys I bought it off, noticed that more than half the bolts that hold the EX housing had come loose!

like 5 - 8mm loose!!!

anyway check with MTQ they said shouldn't be any probs and the bearings doo feel like that after a few 1000 k's

Yesterday it felt perfect! anyway just as well I know the sounds of my car or it could of been worse!

As for the 20th all is still on!

going now to reassemble the car! :D

I will try and get up to mums to grab my 2 CB radios, if someone wants to borrow one to keep in contact otherwise we should all trade mobile numbers when we get there and if you get lost call some one.

im still good for the 20th, need someone to follow. i get lost easy.
Don't worry, one of us will provide an escort for you ;). We confirm it later in the week.

Craig, when you say "quicker", how is it quicker?

galant vr4 stock - 147kw at flywheel
commodore sv6 stock - 190kw at flywheel

galant 1/4 - around 14.4 stock
sv6 1/4 - around 13.9 stock

Ah, quicker in a straight line ;). No mention of power to weight ratios?
The best I could get out of my vr4 when it was stock was a 15.6 quarter mile. Motoring Magazines at the time the vr4 was released in Aus were claiming about a flat 15 second quarter.

But does the SV6 really feel to you like a car that has the same straight line performance as a GTiR pulsar, a current WRX or an XR6 turbo?

http://www.drive.com.au/Editorial/ArticleDetail.aspx?ArticleID=8902&vf=18
My last run down the boring quarter was a 14.1. All that's changed since then is a new clutch and the Fidanza flywheel. We should in theory be pretty closely matched in straight line speed now.

maybe a traffic light run is in order rob?

the commodore weighs slightly more than a galant.

to be honest it doesn't feel like it has the performance of my old galant, but the only thing thats missing is the throw back in the seat feeling when the turbo kicks in.
