most common aftermarket 17" and 18" wheels are about 7 or 7.5" wide with an offset of around +40 which is perfect.

But that's lame.

get a small piece of wood and cut it to 5.5" long, provided the distance from the hub mounting face of the wheel to the inside edge of the rim is the same as the piece of wood, they will fit.
If they are very wide rims, you'll need to roll/stretch/flare the gaurds, but that's not hard until you go silly width wise.

Good shit, thats a reaaly good idea, simple and easy too, there is a table, its posted in that info i put up,

this is it here.

I dont think its correct though, Vr4-Squid what do you think, the backspacing figures seem incorrect, maybe theyre taking tyres into account as weel, to give a total backspace figure..?

Anyway, like was mentioned if the rim is 5.5 inches or less from the back of the hub flange to the inside lip you will be able to fit it up fine, just remeber, dont run a bulky tyre if your at around 5.5 inches, keep it neat....

basicaly, dont bother with 9 inch wide, unless you want a headache setting it up and are prepared to play around with things

8's and 7.5's are what id be looking at for you and offsets of around +30 to +40.

Play around with this and make some combos up, basically, if they fit within the figures ive listed below then it'l be fine.
http://www.1010tires...tCalculator.asp

These are very close estimates..based on a 17 inch rim.

Front-This is about what the front guards can handle, assuming no camber etc...
Max Inner Clearance-25mm less
Max Outer positon-Extend an extra 28mm

Rear-This is about what the rear guards can handle.
Max Inner Clearance-24mm less (border line on having to trim control arm, depending on camber and toe settings)
Max Outer positon-Extend an extra 54mm (needs camber and narrow tyres if low)

When you read these, what it means is, these figures are in reltion to where the stock rim sits, that is....

Inner Clearance-25mm less means a wheel combo that sits back in toward the strut 25mm....
Outer positon-Extend an extra 28mm means a wheel combo that extends out 28mm before its flush with the guard

Play with the calculator and youll get the idea

get a small piece of wood and cut it to 5.5" long,

Just to prove your on the right track with 5.5 inches.....

My figure of Max Inner Clearance-24mm less can be proven by looking at the following

Stock backspace=4.77 or 121.58 mm
New combo with 24mm less clearance is effectively 121.58mm+ 24mm=145.158, which is 5.72 inches...

Thats the absolute, borderline max..may even require a touch of a rear control arm trim, so 5.5 is a good safe figure.

Must have something to do with the yanks insistance on running big ass tires hanging over the edge of the rims *vomit*

I've got 235/40's on 9" wide rims and they are slightly narrower than the rim, which suits me fine. Though I don't mind stretched tires (eg: 215 on 9")

that chart says 16"x8" with offset of 30 are the best bang for buck. Anyone know a brand that does this?

Start looking, just call up wheel shops, dont go for some chrome rubbish though, whats your budget? Theres plenty of nice rims made by Koya, the Koya Inox range is nice, Speedy do some good stuff to sometimes, other than that, cruise through some wreckers and look for some watanabes, i had a set , till i bent them..awesome rim

I ended up running 225/45/17...on my 9's, fitted up awesome.

Another thing, when i said this....

I really wouldnt be wanting to go much past 50mm, if your out this far you will need very neat tyres, and also a bit of camber..(to keep things around flush with the guards)....otherwise, you'll have to mod the guards, which usnt a bad thing..just more work. 9@+30 with rolled guards would look tough..

To give u an idea of what i meant by the limits..this is mine with about 45mm extension.
Required a fair bit of camber to keep the tyres in the guards, once i put a better size tyre on though i had a little more of a gap, hence me saying i wouldnt got past 50mm.
