So after spinning some bearings in the old motor the old girl is running again with a much fresher Evo 3 motor. Also installed a Toda Racing cromoly flywheel and Centerforce dual friction clutch.
Other updates are BC BR coilovers and CE9A front swaybar and control arms.

Update!
I've now had the car off the road now for a couple of years, it needs a fair bit of work and being grown up with a mortgage makes things hard!
I've just ordered from Proton a new roof shell, the roof ribs and all the plastic channels and window rubbers. So that will need to happen, and it's due for a whole respray $$$(I'll keep it red).
I've bought an Evo 3 mechanical diff centre and the driveshafts, they'll go in with my ralliart diff bushes and the tailshaft with new unis and centre bearing.
The steering rack needs a rebuild, I've got some inner tie rods and some super now tie rod ends to go on, I'm not sure if I'd be better off with standard tie rod ends.
I'm really trying to convince myself to pull out the motor for a freshen up too, it could do with a new water pump, timing belt, and all new gaskets throughout. I have these parts laying around ready to go, apart from a gasket set. If I did this, I may as well rebuild with forged internals. I also have a Mitsi 4G64 crank from the USA hidden away, but that can wait I think!
I've just bought an ECMLink v3, so once my ECU is chipped that goes in too.
With the Tailem Bend racetrack opening in a couple of months time, this has given me some inspiration to get things rolling!

Holy thread resurrection Batman!!  Good to see this is still ongoing.  I'm excited about the new track too, even though it's 8hrs away in another state.  Looking forward to seeing updated pics as you progress.

Roadtrip!!  When your GTO is ready to hit the circuit we'll have to organise a few roadtrips to Wakefield in NSW and Taliem Bend/Mallalla in SA.

I will take progress pics as there is progress. Just been set back a bit by a bit of bill to replace some parts on my daily driver.
At the moment the Evo is on four axle stands, ready to start pulling the diff etc out.
There is play in one of the diff member bushes, to the extent that I can grab the whole diff assembly and thump it right up against the underside of the car. It moves about 3 inches.
