Bit of an update on the car and the other purchases.

At EVO nats last year 4th gear was stripped underload. I managed to pick up a gearbox on here that went through the floods and have it rebuilt with a Cusco LSD. Massive difference when driving the car.

Also decided that I couldn't drive the car to track anymore so I bought one of these.

Was out at the track yesterday and with everything I done I matched my best time at QR on the sprint circuit. The next addition will be rear flares and running a 235 semi slick once the Dunlops die.

Also purchased a HANS device and I can say that it makes a significance difference to the seating position but definently a worthwhile purchase.

$5800.

It was brand new. I could have bought a 2 year old second hand one for $5500 so I think it should hold its value. The best thing is no ramps required also has no axles so I can get under and work on the car if required.

Thanks for the info - I'm still scoping out exactly what I want and how much I can afford - but being able to work on the car whilst it's on the trailer is a definite, as I will have to store the car on the trailer whilst they're at home, as I don't have heaps of room to store both separately!

What sort of 235 semis are you looking at? I'm going to upgrade soon to a 235/45/17 and I think the Tyrepower boys are leaning me towards a Kuhmo(spelling?) of some sort. I just trust them to spec the best thing for me and my budget!

If you can fit a 235 on without cutting the rear that will be impressive. I have a 215 semi slick and it is tucked into the guard and the rear trailing arm.

They would be suggesting the KU36 with isn't a real semi slick. These are around $218 a tyre from option1garage here in Brisbane.

I want to get the RE55s which are around $300 a tyre as they are the control for a few series. You could also look to tyre rack for some Hankooks if you are going to trailer the car. These might also be my next option.

I'll have to cut and pump the rear guards to get them to fit. I'm not sure if they were the KU36 tyres or not, will be speaking to them tomorrow so will find out.

Notice how little room the rear tyres have. Once your work out which flares you are buying I would be interested to see the outcome.

It is like buying a diesel prado with the resale. In total the car and trailer is just under 1600kg which is awesome.

I had Bridgestone 225/50/16's semi's on my GSR, they didn't rub but were close to the rear trailing arms. That was with rolled guards, If you did run flares you could get rough with those outer guards and I think they would fit ok.

Kumho do plenty of other semis, V70a, V700 etc.... and some slicks also. good budget tyre for sure.

Why dont you go all out with a 255 :P ....but in all seriousness the 235/45-17 is the best size you could pick as you said due to the amount of
catagory cars that run them. Either way it will be substantially better with the bigger rubber.

It has been a while but I took this back to the track yesterday.

Drained the fuel and replaced filter and cleaned the injectors before heading out. Also ran it up on the dyno. Made 200kw at the wheels.

With the new hankook z221s managed. 56.4 on the sprint circuit at qr which is about 2 secs faster than my old pb.

Will tidy a few things up and run again in a couple of weeks.

If I changed to E85 or changed the turbo I could get more power but even at the current level the car stripped 4th gear at Eastern Creek a few years ago under load so I will just leave it there. It is reliable and touch wood I have had no engine issues in the four years since the rebuild.

 

It has a pretty good power curve with the 68HTA turbo which also benefits me at the track. Last weighin was 1230 with me in the car
