I am about to buy tyres and they will be around $1200 and a rollcage for $1750 but that is hopefully absorb into the budget and I miss out on some other things. After doing a few events I thing a rollcage is a necessity for the speeds which you achieve on the track for a prolonged period of time.

I have cut back other luxuries outside of motorsport like lunches and big nights on the booze and put the money to this instead.

Mate you sound just like me, so I know exactly where you're coming from! I've cut my expenses down to allow me to get the car out on the track, because $150-$200 for a track run is more fun than getting drunk and suffering a hangover (IMO!)

Definitely hear you too regarding the rollcage. My g/f has put her foot down and said I have to get one for safety's sake, so who am I to argue!!

Where are you getting a cage for that kind of $$$ and is it a welded or bolt in? 6pt? 8pt?

It is in Brisbane.

That gets me the following
6 point cage
Harness bar
Roof diagonal
Main Hoop Diagonal

In the event that I wish to change the style to suit more full on racing more parts can be welded in from this base.

It is also CAMS approved.

The cage has been made so that they can go in. The police in QLD have been getting picky lately on door bars so I have left it so that I can drive it to and from the track and not have any issues.

If I decide to go to a more door to door racing I will definently get them put in.

ALso elected to paint it myself after checking out their paint on another cage.

How much weight was in the sound deadening when you removed yours?

I also asked about them. With the movement in the car over time you end up not being able to get them out. I understand where you are coming from on both intrusion and cage strength. I am more concerned about rolling over then taking a side hit at the moment.

It is only $250 to get them put in when I am ready.

I wish roll cage builders would stop fully welding foot plates into cars.
Shame he didn't tag the cage to the roof Hypo. The main hoop sure is along way back from the B pillars.

Do the front legs go to the floor, or to foot plates on the sills?

Front legs goto the floor.

Either way it is going to better then having nothing.

I am sure it probably could have been designed better and include meters more pipe.

Sorry, I didn't mean for my post to come across the way it did. I can be unintentionally blunt sometimes . It wasn't intended that way.

Yes, it will definately be better than nothing .

I didn't take it badly. Just stating what I chose to do.

He offered a different solution which I rejected based on both price and my ideas of what I will be doing in the car.

Well a small update.

Cage is now all painted and the new seat and harness are mounted. Once the cage went in I had issues with the seat height and my head hitting on the cage so I had to have the seat remounted lower. So I swapped the velo for a Sparco Sprint V. At the same time I decided that I would have the side intrusion bars fitted as well.

Next item is to remove all the sound deadening and get the suspension adjusted as the whole car has changed with the cage being fitted.

Noice!!

Are you still using your factory seatbelt? If so - how'd you mount the buckle receiver?

I had a japanese seat mount that I found for the CC Lancer which suited side mounted seats. It already had the seat belt buckle bolt welded on.

A friend has mounted the middle seat belt buckle from the rear to the original seat hole for the drivers seat.
