Hey guys, got a galant vr4 92 model, 4g63 engine had it for roughly 3 months, (so im just new to the whole scene).. running a kkr440 turbo. apparently wat happened was the air con belt slipped off, wrapped itself round the timing belt and melted it along with the harmonic balancer, well thats wat he told me. He suspected there was internal damage, opened it up and sed all the valves are stuck open, and pretty much told me the engine was fucked. DO i have to replace to whole engine, or is there another solution? if i do have to replace the engine.... does anyone have a complete package to go?.... in brisbane, thanks alot guys, any help will be appreciated =]

The aircon belt should not be able to get anywhere near the timing belt unless the balancer let go and ate a hole in the lower cover!
If the timing belt shat itself you can expect a head rebuild at the very least.
You would be best to pull the head and have a look for damage to the pistions.
Where abouts are you located? If we know where you are it is easier to help you out.
Can you also fill in your location details in your profile.
Thanks

I'm sure one or a couple of us Brissy guys could come over and check it out for you if you like.
I take it the head is still on the engine?

oh ok sounds more reasonable

definetly check for indents on the pistons from where valves have hit

how many ks are on the motor because it might be an idea too freshen up the bottom end while its apart soo less labour later on

i have a balancer you can have for $80. I can come over and have a look at it, if i'm right then the springs wont be loose if the valves are open, they should be very very tight, the only way they will be loose is if the spring locks have come off. and as mentioned before check for smilies on the pistons

lol i like the way you put it about the smiles on the pistons

yer if they valves are open springs will be tight unless the retainers have fallen off

First I've ever heard of an aircon belt to melt into the timing cover and kill the timing belt and balance shaft belt - sounds like the worst thing that could happen actually happened. I suppose the aircon belt is on the inside of the harmonic balancer and if it were to let go it would be stuck between the timing cover and alternator belt with nowhere to go except melt into the timing cover and kill the timing belt - ouch

In any situation where you have timing belt failure youre up for cracking open the bottom end and having to undergo a full rebuild .This MUST ALSO INCLUDE a full crack test and rebalance of the crank, just incase it has cracked it!!! If your machinist cant crack test it then take it to someone who can as it is VERY IMPORTANT.

Its a good chance to swap out the stock items for forged rods and pistons, new bearings, rings, gaskets, waterpump, belts, balance shaft eliminator kit etc with a full bottom end balance. The head will obviously have to be sent away for a full inspection and replacement of defective parts.

I see every chance of an engine block teardown as a good time for a full rebuild for reliability and longevity :) Dont skimp or you'll only be as good as the weakest link and could end up losing money in the long run with another engine teardown and having to do everything all over again :)

Really? Most of the people that I know of who have bent valves just fix up the head if the pistons look ok and whack it back together.

the 4g62 is non interferance for one.. its just when they squeezed the extra 200cc outa it and made it the 63 they did that in

1.8 Sireen motor that came in old L300 vans does no damage when the belt breaks, but there are probly none of them left anymore as they all get the 2.6 Sigma motor into them..
