Wow I need to confirm this Squid, your saying a evo 1-3 coilover set fits a vr4 with only a simple bottom bush change.. The tophats bolt up fine in the rear?

foR

top hats are the same in the rear. (as are later evo ones)

whether the lower bushes are interchangeable i don't know, but it would be simple enough to have a urethane bush or rose joint fitted to suit.

later model evo lower mounts are a different story, you'd need to cut the lower mount off the vr4 shocks and have it welded into the fork at the end of the coilover (i'm in the process of doing this at the moment).

Many discussiond here, good info coming out of the woodwork lads....Baz, Im kinda in the same boat as you, The 19's i have really require me to have adjustability...If those Hotbits are interchangeable with my car, then id def consider buying them off you.

From experience, the Rear of the FWD Galnt has a setup that slips between a C-Channel type mount, then the bolt goes through..The rear of my car has a mount similar but the bolt is actually 90 degrees around (can just twist shock to fit) and i think its a bigger bolt (not 100%)

In any case it could probably be modified. The front end of my evo has 2 bolt holes for the shock to mount, they are at 12 oclock and 6 oclock, though there is a hole also at 3 oclock, its not used though..rear is just 12 oclock six oclock. My only concern though would be different closed and open shock lenghts between VR4 and Evo, and the whole thing going pear shaped and height i want not being acheivable, id have to make some phone calls, and do some research.

The Idea of building a coilover with inserts is appealing, though what im after essentially is a monotube shock coilover, that will allow my car to sit guard to centre of around 300-305 in the rear, 310 in the front...and have some travel left, yet be stiff....I feel if i start building stuff, its gonna get expensive....and i wont be able to get the dampening adjustment that i could get with ta Hotbits unit unless i use a very expensive unit..like an Ohlins etc..would i be right in saying that?

How can a sport which requires loss of traction (the opposite of what good suspension is designed to do) on a nice smooth surface be tortuous on suspension? Required shock travel would be limited to about 1" at most.

haha,Rob, you make me laugh.. your right though in what your saying about drift...its all smooth weight transition and done on good surfaces...compared to a rally etc...so I'd go with your comment there..

when i got prices for it a while ago it was around 1500 i think

What parts were they using Craig? Bilstein? And was that a fullcoilovers set for that price?

you'd need to cut the lower mount off the vr4 shocks and have it welded into the fork at the end of the coilover (i'm in the process of doing this at the moment).

Sounds tricky, welding the base of a shock with Oil and Gas under pressure inside of it...Be carefull!

it was a bilstein mono tube shock, made into a coilover, it was between 1500-1800 for a full set, can't remember if that was my price or retail though.

Cool thats easy I've had a set of bushes made for the bottom before.

Best bet for a vr4 then is deff evo 1-3 setup. :)

With height adjustable coilovers you can remove the lower mount from the shock when you weld it. Decent quality ones (cusco, tein, etc) have steel mounts which makes life easier.

hey jap63 not sure if you have sourced any coil overs yet but my 2 cents worth
I use g4's in mine in a race spec springcombo and they are great
if you want i am in brisbane and i am happy to take you for a run in the car so you can see just what they are like
let me know if you are interested
as for everyone with there comments re cheap brands
I would take a cheap brand new g4/d2/race logic etc over a second hand tein as at least i know that they havent been in a crashed vehicle lets face it that would be the reason that 95% would be taken out.

Cheers for the offer there mate.

I havent bought anything yet, not in too much of a hurry either....Im leaning towards a damper that has bump adjustment as well as rebound adjustment..unfortunately the cheaper alternatives, as good as they may be, dont offer both..
Still researching, if the DMS go low enough for getting around on the street, then the DMS 40mm may be an option..

Hmm, just read this

Top turning adjuster to adjust damper and rebound up to 36 ways. All shock absorbers are adjustable for both compression and rebound.

http://www.d2racings...om.au/tech.html

Didnt realise they were bump adjustable as well

meh 36 ways is over rated, u only need 12 way, TOPS, if ur streeting, just a marketing gimmick

are u sure theyre bump adjustable.. could be wrong on the site. when i received my g4's on the box it said 32 way adjustable then on the brochure it said 36. dont really believe in any of their marketing...
