hey guys,

My car (HH galant SE) has been shuddering a bit under load in 2nd, 3rd and 4th. it's slowly been gettin worse. I think it might be the clutch/pressure plate springs.

One: does any one know for sure if this would be the case?

Two: how hard is it to get the clutch out? I've never had to do it on a east west engine before.

Cheers Guys
officer, how can you say my burnout was antisocial behaviour...all my mates were watching???

What makes you think it's the clutch? does it slip at all, trouble engaging it?

Sounds more like it's a missfire, pull the plugs out and have a look at them, check the gaps etc.

thanks guys

from about 1500 upwards... doesnt happen in first, only from second on... havent really tested it over 60 as i havent driven far from home lately, and only under acceleration. I'll rip the plugs out this weekend and have a look but i don't have a gap checker thing and my old man took his when he moved to qld. are the standard gaps on the inside of the bonnet? i lost my workshop manual when i moved houses last time.

for a non turbo gap should be 1.1mm. plugs are bpr6es-11 (ngk)

does it go away if u are driving at like 80 and push the clutch in?

if it does then it would driveline if it still does it then u can rule that out.

sounds like leads or plugs, or both

yeah it goes away when ya put the clutch in or back right off the accelerator. i'm changing the plugs and leads this weekend and i'll see how that goes.... if it is the driveline what do youthink would be the most likely source of the problem?

rear main oil seal could be leaking onto the flywheel, pressure plate, and friction plate and that 1 cause of the shuddering that your talking about

well i've ruled out plugs, leads and fuel so time to look into clutch/gearbox etc...
plugs, leads and filter made it idle a bit smoother (fuel filter was 70 000kms old oops) and it drove ok for a while but the more it warmed up the more is shuddered. it was going away then coming back. had a mechanic look at it and it's got him stuffed to. he said it felt like a collapsed engine mount but since it wasn't doing it all the time is shouldn't be that.
time to get under the car and see what i can find out i think!

you could be right here, expecially if it gets worse as it warms up as the oil gets thinner and can get past the seal easier...

something else that would cause shuddering is a throwout bearing thats not moving right and getting caught on the input shaft due too indents on input shaft or not being lubed up correctly
