Just a quick question.. im about to do a service on my car. Got some 15w-50 street & track NULON oil (100% synthetic), Drift oil filter, Bosch platinum plus spark plugs and some new top gun ignition leads.
Anyway my question is has anyone use this additive that you put in the old oil (before the oil change) and run the engine for 10-15 mins and then drain??? it is supposed to help remove more of the cruddy oil, i think it called oil flush or oil drain or sumthin, is it worth buying or a waste of money.
Also is there any point using that additive that is supposed to reduce lifter noise or am i just dreaming.

any comments good or bad about the products i purchased would be appreciated also ( a bit late now tho, $190 later!!)

That oil is probably a bit on the thick side, I would have stuck with a 10w40 :)

I never really use those additives, as long as you drop the oil when its still reasonably hot (not so it burns all the skin off your hand if you spill it), it should get most of it out....

Yeah i should have asked opinions before i went out and bought everything!! At least i wasnt too far off, i just thought being an old engine with a few km's under the belt to go a bit thicker.
I agree with about the additives i dont really like the idea of them, you go and buy a nice expensive oil and chuck in who knows what kinda chemicals. There is just a bit of lifter tick starting up, ill change the oil first and see if that clears it up.

Just a quick update- got a new steering wheel, and painted my rocker cover
Posted ImagePosted Image

Also before i did my service last weekend i was starting to get a bit of lifter tick. i didnt like the thought of putting an additive into my nice new oil so 3 days before the service i put in some of that nulon lifter free stuff. it helped a little bit, but then when i changed the oil (to 15w-50 NULON street & track NULON) it was completely gone :w00t:
Still purring away 1week later so fingers crossed. ;)

From memory it is VHT Engine Enamel "bright red" or something like that, i left it at my parents house (big shed=me spending a lot of time there:D). I'll check it out tomorrow. It came up really nice, first time that i have painted something and been happy with the outcome. Big thanks to Gibby for giving me tips on how to do it properly:thumbsup:.

Hey 3zercrowd,
I have never really painted anything properly before but i was lucky enough to meet Gibby a few weeks ago when he bought some wheels and stuff off me. He had just resprayed his front and rear bars... and the quality was bloody AWSESOME!! So when i was painting my rocker cover i asked for some Tips and this is what he PM'ed me....

1 - rocker cover off car, clean off all old gasket etc...
2 - get some panel wipe, proper panel desgreaser. you need 2 cloths, one to apply, the other to wipe off.
Clean it really well - inside as well. Any grease/silicone will result in fish eyes, where there material (paint) cannot cover.
3 - not sure what shape the rocker cover is, so the rubbing down element will depend on this. At the minimum, you need a grey scotch brite soaked in water. Rub the whole panel to be painted and mask off anyhting not to be painted. If you are using a thick material, a red scoth brite will do, and you can use that dry.
Scotch brites are a couple of buck each from your motor factors.
4 - If the panel has scratches, use a sand paper...important you do not leave scratches on the panel. it's a rocker cover and suspect the paint will be quite thick
5 - not sure with the paint you'll use whether you'll need to prime? if it's metal, you may need an etch primer...this gives adhesion betweeen the panel and the material (paint)
6 - use your air compresor with the air blower attachment and blow off the panel...all dust/water etc.
7 - use your panel wipe again onthr panel. Blow off the panel again.
8 - mask off any areas not to be painted (masking tape rea'd - the more you spend, the better it is!)
9 - panel wipe again. Wipe on, wipe off.
10 - blow off the panel again
11 - get a tack rag and wipe down panel - its a sticky rag, get it from your motor factors and store in a packet - it can used many times...same as with sctoch brites)
12 - if you need to etch prime, apply etch primer in light even layers, flowing passes - etch only needs to cover, so youo don;t need to apply overly wet (heavy) - wait in between coats for the prev to dry. You should really only need 2 coats
TIP - do corners and tight areas first, then flowing passes of the panel. this ensure you get even coverage on the bits that matter, but don;t miss tight bits.
13 - tag rag the dried etch primer - no need to rub it down
14 - do your top coat in the same as with etch primer.
Do not be a one coat hero - if you need to give it another coat wait nuntil it dries (a few mionutes, depending on how wet/heavy you apply the paint. (but you'll need to read tyhe instructions as never used that crinkle stuff)
Tip for painting - if it's a spray can you are using, pressure is really variable, so always test the can...hold can about 6 inches from panel (clench your fist, then extend thuinb, them the pinky finger - thats about the distance from gun to panel.)
Don;t squirt, squirt on your even passes, just keep it steady and flowing and complete your pass off the panel.
Gun always even distance from panel and directly onto panel, not gun angled away from item to be covered.

Anyways - practice first - practice makes perfect.
Like I said though - never used that crinkle stuff - so read the instructions.
