EVO got some more work completed today

I installed the replacement battery in the boot.

Secondly I removed the questioned Walbro intank fuel pump to find all sorts of issues once again.

To start the wrong the pump was installed was it was also the incorrect model for the EVO so it was an absolute prick to get out of the tank.

The model used had the pick up filter thingy folded in half to get it in and out of the tank which obviously creates 2 issues. This was because the wrong model was used and had the filter thing on the wrong side to suit the wiring.

1/ Reduction in available area to draw in the fuel
2/ where it was folded in half it was blocking the balance pipe to the other side of the tank.

I then tested to stamped Walbro fuel pump to find it was a copy :( as I had thought it was. I tried to test it again about 30 mins after removal to show the misses and it wouldn't even fkn work.

Apart from the wrong model used, the pick up filter all folded up and cross over piping block by the filter the pump was also extremely poorly installed.

The return line, balance pipe and external line from the top of the pump both all had the 'O' rings all out of shape so there was gaps everywhere.

I was given an EVO II pump from Gaz which I decided to install. Gaz threw it all together for me and this time it was done correctly.

The car now starts so much easier, instead of just sitting there turning the car over waiting for the pump to prime it turns over maybe twice and starts.

Just goes to show that when purchasing a fuel pump for your car always ensure a genuine pump and not some EBay copy is used.

I may even find that there is also an increase in performance.

Thanks for all your help today Gaz and Josh

I know what your saying. The car is slowly getting fixed from how I purchased it.

I didn't put this pump in the car.

After watching Josh doing heaps of body work on his GSR I decided I'd have a go at putting some paint on the drivers side side skirt, blend it in and clear it.

This was just a quick go to see how it came up

Check it out yo

Cheers guys

The next thing on the list for me is to repaint around the window surrounds as the black paint is wearing really thin.

Couple of weeks off and that should get done, I have already got everthing to do it so it's just a matter of finding the time

Just a few updates that have been lost...

1/ the cracked radiator has been replaced, just waiting for the new radiator hoses to arrive

2/ the brand new amber corners arrived and have been installed

3/ GFB boost controller installed and now running 1 bar

4/ EVO 1 RS ECU picked up and installed and OMG what a difference. The EVO 2 ECU was allowing the engine to ping at anything over idle running 6psi.

5/ Car goes into the shop to get a rear drive shaft repaired

Anyhow here are a couple of pics of the new amber corners

Rear drivers side shaft removed look what was found.

Currently trying to find a replacement to get this sorted :(

What happened was last week there was a massive BANG and took it straight down to the workshop to find that a rear CV boot had split and that the CV joint was dry.

I then booked the car in to get the boot replaced and CV regreased but when they took it out it appears to have surface rust on it and no grease to be seen. Basically it has been dry for quite some time.

anyway here are some photo's they sent me this morning

Well today was going very well until about 10pm tonight.

I picked up the car from K-Tune with the rear drive shaft repaired, rear diff oil changed again for me, wheel alignment done and best of all the EVO 2 ECU has been socketed and an aftermarket chip dropped in there with the boost / fuel cuts removed, fuel map and timing map all adjusted for 18psi

Thats the good stuff.

I washed it tonight and decided i'd head out for a drive with the misses.

Left our place, headed down the M1, dropped onto Smith Street and I noticed the temp gauge was at Max (well over 'H')

I then proceeded to take it to the closest servo and spent next hour getting the heat out of it by pour litres of water over the radiator

What I found was a radiator cap that had blown apart and I think the thermostat is stuck.

I managed to limp the car home with help from Josh and Gaz.

At this stage I'm up for at least a radiator cap and thermostat replaced but due to the excessive heat I expect that all the rings in this car will now be soft.

Engine oil replaced
Oil filter replaced
Spark plugs replaced
New Thermostat
New Radiator cap

I just want to replace the gearbox and transfer case oil again to be sure they are all good as well.

I'm still waiting for the new radiator hoses to arrive

After a quick drive it would appear that there are no leaks.

The thermostat that was removed appeared to be different to the new one purchased today and is almost impossible to open.

Anyway here are what came out...

Thanks for your help Josh

I did some work on my roof turrets today for something different

Basically I thought i'd give it a try and see how they come up with a fresh coat of matt black paint

First off I got some new blades for my stanley knife and removed the black stuff off the roof turret strip

Secondly I primed it up and let that dry

Thirdly I applied a few layers of matt black. This is not completed yet but I should hopefully have them back on next weekend

I got my driver side one today for $25 from a local wrecker and sprayed it up with a bit of black bumper/trim paint. It was in really good nick without any of the plastic flaking off so I jumped on it like a fat kid on a smartie.

Yours has come up really neat Dion - I really like how you're doing the hard yards on the car yourself and it shows in how it's starting to come together.

I did the wrecker rounds looking at CC sedans and Proton's and found nothing that didn't need work anyway.

Hopefully this weekend will see them completed and fixed back onto the car

The car goes into the workshop today to get checked over.

It's breathing really heavy now and appears to be blowing blue/white smoke :(

It's going in for a pressure test and compression test as well.

I'm not looking forward to the verdit.

yeah I agree I just hope there isn't more damage but the heat will soften all the rings also so I will see what comes back.

Might be time for a rebuild
