How much time do you spend in a parking lot with your performance car? If you do a lot of parking lot driving, and hang out in parking lots, chances are you are a ricer, go home and read import tuner. If you’re complaining about noise you should not be modifying your car. You should also consider no longer being a man, please hand in your genitals at the door.

I've been led to believe they are by Steve Murch a.k.a M.S.E: Motorsport Engineering in N.Z, who has pulled apart over 100 of them and he says they're big 16g's.

That part number is from an Evo 1.
Same turbo as I have :)
There seems to be a bit of confusion as to whether it is a small or big 16g though?

I pulled the comp cover from mine and measured the wheel and it is a big 16g.

It probably wouldn't hurt to measure your wheel to see which one you have there!

The difference between small and big 16g is the vanes isn't it? Big/small/big/small = big 16g. Same size (all small) = small 16g. Or at least that's what they post over on galantvr4.org (US Site)

Only the 14b has compressor blades that are all the same height Lorrie, the Small and Big 16g's have staggered blades.
Check out vfaq for more info, click on turbo then scroll down to "turbo comparison" :)

Here's something to keep you busy for while. Ever wondered 'what the f*ck is a ETE52?' or 'Does a Frank 4 flow more than a 20G?"... well now you can decipher and compare the identifaction names that some performance shops give their turbos by the info below

Mitsubishi Turbo Specs
TDO4-9B-6CM2 265 CFM
TDO5H-14G-8CM2 465 CFM
TDO5-12A-8CM2 320 CFM
TDO4-13G-5CM2 360 CFM
TEO4-13C-6CM2 360 CFM
TDO4L-13G-6CM2 360 CFM
TDO4L-15C-8.5CM2 390 CFM
TDO5H-14B-6CM2 405 CFM
TDO5H-16G-7CM2 505 CFM
TDO5H-16G-10CM2 505 CFM
TDO5H-BIG16G-7CM 550 CFM
TDO6-17C-8CM2 550 CFM
TDO6H-20G-14CM2 650 CFM
TDO7S-25G-17CM2 850 CFM
TFO8L-30V-18CM2 1200 CFM

The above specs are measured at 15psi compressor air flow.

Max output from various Mitsu turbos
TD05-14B (stock 1st gen) 275-300hp @ 21 psi
TD05-16G (small) 345-365hp @ 22 psi
TD06-16G (large) 365-385hp @ 22 psi
TD06-20G 430-450hp @ 22 psi

A/R's
There are quite a few different tdo6's. Here are a few mitsi compressor housings and there corresponding a/r ratios
6 cm2 = 0.41 A/R
7 cm2 = 0.49 A/R
8 cm2 = 0.57 A/R
9 cm2 = 0.65 A/R
10 cm2 = 0.73 A/R

Can someone identify the car that 49178-04510 is off please? Is it a twin scroll of a later evo? It's listed as a TD05H on that portugese site that lists all MHI turbos.

Anyone know what this turbo is 49178-01730 (its a TD05 something)

A quick google search brought up a number of different answers - but mainly from a 2.6L starion...

A guy on PF is selling the comp housing - i just thought it might be worth a hybrid upgrade.

EDIT - a continued google search confirms a TD05-12a-8 from a 1990 2.6L starion.

sooooo prolly not worth the effort.. Anyone know the flow rate or got a comp map?

I have one of these and tried to fit it to my vr4 - but the compressor cover fouls on the front engine mount oops!

what 16G front cover do I need, or would I be best getting? Kando sell the stock one and also 18 & 20g ones

is this TD05H 16G6-7 bigger again than a Big 16G or what? I am going to measure the inducer/exducer wheels tonight.

even if the stock 16G cover fits, is there any advantage to getting a 18 or 20G cover? more flow?

Hope someone can assist a bit
cheers Brett :)

Covers must be matched to the compressor wheel. A 20 g cover on a 16G wheel will not work very well.

ok thanks Rob, so a stock evo 3 cover will be best suited then.
