thanks to just jap in kirrawee my warrentied engine has turnt into a expensive paper weight.

was thinking about putting the car on ebay to sell for about 4K. (has coil overs, two turbo's (obviously only one fitted), link ecu, 40km old exedy clutch, turbo back zorst, rx7 injectors, and alot of audio equipment).

but not alot of people are buying right now, so i was also thinking just parting it out.

but then my mate said it would be better off keeping it and reconditioning for 2K-ish or buying a new engine.

the reason i would prefer not to buy an engine is because the car already has rego, blue slip etc and iv already spent heaps getting the car on the road.

what do you guys think? iv already spent heaps on the car. thanks!

What K**ts at just jap, so your engine stuffed up and they said it aint covered under warranty?
If i really loved the car then i would do what you can to keep it, even though i can understand you have spent money on a rebuild or new engine already, so best bet is to not give up, some people do throw in the towel after a tonne of headaches but that depends on yourself.
Thanks Andy

has it dropped a piston or done the big end bearing???
id def look at buying the parts ya need an then take it to a mechanic
at least when ya get it back, then ya know its gotta good heart in her an any future fixes will be minor

thanks for the quick replies.

yeh, the manager himself swore at me a couple of times and even before looking at it they said they wont fix it, fairtrading is allegedly to busy to help. total rubbish. talking to a solicitor though

all they said was its fried (whatever that means). there was still oil in the engine and no creamy residue or anything. no big bang, turns but dosent start. reason id want to keep it is that realisticaly it has alot of mods which itself are worth more then 4K.

but because of the headaches id rather sell it and buy a 2 cylinder .3L car that gets me from a to b. JUST JAP = EPIK FAIL

anyone have experiances with re conditioned engines?

hit the fuel tank drivers side with a bar or stick fairly solidly, might be a fuel pump, or maybe coils, did it overheat?? does it knock when its turning over, wish i could help man, cos these cars, i just read the other thread an hmmm probly have to find exactly where the oil came from, probly best to see a mechanic, at least you'l get a pretty definitive answer

man i know how you feel so close to getting car on the road, blown motor.
mate i soldiered on and bought another motor! i missed my car that much (3yrs off the road).
after that, blown ecu so soldiered on and bought another ecu too.

i only bought another motor because it was a cheaper option at the time than getting a rebuild done even though it was a gamble. good luck with it mate.

KEEP IT, i have had mine for 4 years in that time i have had the motor appart more often than i can remember, you will regret it if you sell it, and even more if you part it out. find out why it's not starting...is it cranking if so you can do a compression test and see if that is the problem. get it fixed.

1 other thing, if just jap or whoever it is do come to the party and repair/replace under warranty then you will get a new warranty starting from that day. not from the original warranty period.

I'd be making sure you know EXACTLY what is wrong with it, before you go around blaming people for a motor that wont start....

There's heaps of reasons why it wouldnt start!

Is this a fresh conversion?

u live in western sydney?
take it to meek auto at giraween

chris meek knows everything about vr4s, lancers and evos

like clutz said u need to find out exactly what is wrong with the car - even more so if you plan to take legal action.

id join nrma and then get it towed (flat bed) to meek - nrma allow a 50km free tow to were ever u want - just tell them the car broke down the day u join.

Take it to a reputable person who knows these engines. Things to maybe tell us aswell is:

- Any strange noises while cranking? Knocking, Grinding etc
- Have you removed the plugs and looked down the cylinder? Holes in the pistons??
- Run a multimeter across the fuel pump (Under Seat) and see if there is any resistance
- Run Multimeter across the power to the fuel pump, make sure there is infact power
- If you can not do the above, pull off the Fuel line on the rail, put it in a bottle, and crank the car over a couple of times, no fuel well you get the gist.

Answer / Do the above and let us know how you get on.. If its not makign any noise while cranking, no oil in water and vice versa, just make sure the oil is topped up before cranking obviously.

Good Luck

cost will depend on whats wrong with it.
you will have to pay for labour and parts if needed.
it could be anything from a fuse or dodgey wire to a completely fucked engine

take it to meek
there is no one better in Sydney
they wont fuck u around and they know VR4s inside out and
carry most of the parts - genuine and aftermarket - which are hard to find these days.

just do the nrma thing its simple costs no where near as much as towing it independently

Yeh as nate108 has said your best bet would be to take to meek, he will more than likely tell you the problem on the spot, he knows the vr4's inside out.
