As many of you know, I snuck in and grabbed the EVO that was for sale last week, despite many others attempts to get in there too!

Its a 1993 Lancer GSR EVOLUTION, done 152,000kms. Its in need of some major TLC!

Symptoms were that the head gasket was gone. This is true- although there's no water in the oil, flooded cylinders and the motor runs pretty good, there's a mystery oil leak from around the CAS area thats spitting opil onto the gearbox, which I think is the head gasket.

We got the car onto a hoist and found the culprit- the water pump is leaking quite badly, which caused the car to over heat. This was caused by the water pump rusting out, similar to this hose which goes from the thermostat housing to the throttle body to heat the wax pallet. There was a split in it, and it snapped the fitting off the housing due to rust! Make sure you guys use coolant ok!!!

There's a bunch of other things that are/were wrong with it:

-Drivers window regulator (or maybe even the motor) (fixed)
-Drivers window switch panel switches, 2 are gonners (fixed)
-Shifter arm cut (was almost impossible to drive) (fixed)
-Exhaust needs replacing: 3" on the cards
-Stereo wasn't secured, even though there was stereo brackets? :( (fixed)
-No rear spoiler (fixed)
-Air filter needs replacing
-Interior filthy (fixed)
-Clutch might need replacing [COLOR=Green](fixed)

-Roof rust
-Dent and scrape in right rear 1/4 panel
-Glovebox
-Electric arial
-Centre console lid
-Steering wheel frayed
-Stereo surround broken
-Rattle in dash

As you can see this is a new project, but with some TLC and some work, it should be near back to normal.

I have sourced a shifter, gear boot, gear knob (EVO 7) and will be chipping the ECU with a chip from Meek, and tidying up the engine bay. Its a bit of a mess. Have also painted the amber corners!

Will keep you guys updated on its progress- am aiming for it to be on the road, fixed for the cruise on the 26th of July!

Here's some pics!

Thanks for the comments guys!

Can't wait to see what you do with this Dre.

Its not going to be anything over the top. I really don't wanna spend much on it, as I still have my other project which is moving forward!

I'm just going to fix this one up, enjoy it- and when my other car is ready, sell/swap it probably for something that can tow, quite possibly a leggy. :D

Will keep you guys updated, and take some better pics when I take it out next!

Black on black = Thumbsup!

hey just quickly out of curiousity, do the import evo 1-3 suffer from the same issues as the local CC GSR do? i.e. idle control, cracking firewall etc? cheers

Roof rust is the killer, especially on the darker coloured cars...
