When I first purchased the car, I was like... "I am not going to spend a cent on this car"... 10K and one year later and I hadn't even touched the engine bay!
I just took delivery of a bolt on FP Red Turbo today, so now i'll be focusing on some new intercooler pipes, new cold air intake, bigger injectors, new fuel pump and a flash tune of the standard ECU and hopefully it'll give me a semi-reliable 260kw's at 24-25psi on the stock motor. In the near future, I might look at a forged engine rebuild, new cams, E85 and screw the boost up and shoot for 320kw's plus.
Hopefully it'll see some track time early in the new year!

Thanks mate. I am not going to push the stock engine and drivetrain initially so with a few supporting mods I am only going to shoot for around the 260-270kw mark. The beauty about it, it's stock looking and bolts up to the standard manifold, is capable of producing mega power with little compromised in the way of response. That's why it appealed to me so much.
These turbos are hugely popular in the states (Evo FP Green, Red and now Black) with some extreme examples of the FP Red producing between the 550-600whp mark but I am not looking to produce anywhere near that. Those who run these huge numbers are (being in the US of A) Evo VIII's and IX's so in the lighter chassis of the VI, it should still go very well. I won't be fitting it until the near year so i'll be spending the next few months hunting for the best stealthy supporting mods to get the most out of it!

It's going to be a road car and do the occasional trackday. There are other Evos in Oz that run an upgraded turbocharger and are producing in excess of 300wkws. The standard Evo VI or VII ECU is cheaper, the driveability is better... to get an aftermarket to do the same would take many many many hours and they also have a tendency to lose their tune... and the run like shit in varying weather. The knock control on a standard ECU is excellent also.
ECU's on later model cars are so much more advanced these days... they are almost as good as many aftermarket units. It's not like a VR-4 computer where you're pretty much stuffed when you reach the 140 wheel kw mark and you have to ditch it to get more power out of it. But having said that, if I want much more than 300kw's from an Evo VI or VII ECU, then i'll probably look at the aftermarket options.

My 6 has been re-mapped. Advantages of 7/8 ecu's are you can have dual maps, I'll suss one of these out if/when I run E85.
Brad I'm also looking to run similar figures (250-270kw) when time/money permits.

After a 4 week wait, my Plazmaman intercooler, R-Spec intercooler piping and turbo cast outlet came in the mail today.
The quality is just awesome... and it should fill up the front bar nicely.
I hope to have it on the car in the next couple of weeks, but I am waiting for a couple of other goodies first.

In the next couple of weeks, i'll get a new Walbro fuel pump fitted and flash tune of the stock ECU and shoot for around the 220-230wkw mark on 98. I am hopefully that it'll all be ready to compete in Time Attack in Adelaide in the first week of March. Although it won't be anything to brag about, once tuned, i'll post up some dyno sheets.

After an agonizing 12 months, I *finally* have my licence back, which now gives me the flexibility to actually get to workshops to have work performed on the car... and it also gives me the freedom to be able to do some testing on the street (legally of course).
As the car has been sitting around garaged, I had a mate drive my car down to Mallala 3-4 months ago to stretch it's legs and blow the cobwebs out of it, so on the way I filled it with BP Ultimate - ever since, it has been running like a pile of shit. Anyway, this week I let the BP Ultimate burn off and I filled the car with some Mobil 98 and presto, the car ran smooth as silk. I have used BP Ultimate previously, but I clearly struck a bad batch.
Last week, I picked up and fitted some blue Rays wheel nuts which (being alloy) are much lighter than the steel jobs not to mention better looking. Also had my one-piece headlights wired up (sort of lol). The Auto elec had no issues wiring up the driving lights and the hi-beams but couldn't get them to work similtaneously. I might have to do some more research on MLR or just try another Auto Electrician, but it's getting me by.
Quick snap from this evening.
Sent the car to SKR this week to fit a Walbro fuel pump, flash tune and fit some trackspec brake pads as well as hi-temp brake fluid.
The first dyno sheet was performed in December '09' and it only pumped out 188.7kw's (last time it was on the dyno), although according to the previous owner, it apparently produced 206kw's some time earlier. With that limp wristed result, obviously I wasn't too happy at the time!
Since then I have added the Plazmaman intercooler kit, an ARC airbox, Walbro and a tune and on Thursday it produced a healthy 239.3kws @ 23.5psi on 98 octane (on a warm day)... which was a little more than I was expecting out of the stock turbo and injectors. I guess that tells me that all the supporting mods (and tune) are really doing their job by squeezing the utmost out it. It's a nice little useable and hopefully reliable power gain, and definitely pulls a lot harder but it could still do with 50-100kw's more!
Brake Pads fitted were Elig RS709 with Motul 660 brake fluid, and what a difference they made! As they're more of a racing orientated pad, I was a little wary that they might not heat up enough on the street, but they are fantastic... excellent bite and pedal feel and I haven't even worked them out yet. The old Bendix Ultimates were appalling in comparison, so dull and lifeless but these Elig's should really come alive on the track.
Anyway, I have entered the car in Time Attack in a fortnight so it'll be good to finally get this puppy on the track, turn in a few laps and drive the car the way it was meant to be driven. It should be interesting as it'll be my debut and the competition is one word, fierce!

I like the mainline dynos fairly accurate results, i dont however like their power over torque overlay. It makes the power curve look small because the torque overshadows it.
Have you got a sheet with just the power?
I see they used 3rd gear as they did with mine. Whats the Evo6's 3rd gear ratio out of interest? (Gsr is 1.115:1 , closest to 1:1)
BTW... does anyone else have a sore ass??
