Correct - the culprit
I was only travelling in the fast lane on the eastern fwy at the time... made a very lucky escape across all lanes, and up the Middleborough Rd off-ramp which was handily situated, as was the green arrow to turn around the corner and coast up onto the verge. $200 weekend tow back to Lyndhurst with my Towie driver named Lucky! I mean really...

Dont part it out !! I would just forget about it for awhile and fix it over time

I know, but I need a daily though, otherwise I might

You could fix that for $500 or less. Looks like the pistons aren't that bad. Put a wire wheel on the drill and clean the worst piston top. (don't clean the last 5mm at edge of piston or the carbon at top of bore). Post a pic of the biggest valve mark. If you not interested I may buy the shagged head and intake...

Im not really a DIY'er to that extent and don't know enough to bother I don't think.
headwork will cost $300-500 plus parts I thought?

When I see dinged pistons I assume more damage based on the forces involved. They are not huge marks; but I cannot quantify that in a car sense.
my mate who has rebuild his 4G a few times seemed to think it was pretty toast.

Pistons are tough, valves are soft. Clean the bad piston up and post a pic.

You have pulled it apart, you obviously have the tools, and the getgo. so now you can learn to put it together

looks fine from the pictures bro... heads from pick a part are fairly cheap, just steal one from a Galant GSR, or few of us have spare heads lying around, just change the stem seals and get it checked, head shaved it shouldn't cost you much if you do your own work to the car...

by looking at the dints on the pistons, it wasnt a massive impact, its more so a love tap... it takes a lot to bend a rod on these engines...

WideBody Galant GSR 4g63 N/A+T Hybrid 1st/3rd gen +AWD

Put a straight edge over the block and measure down to each piston top with a feeler gauge to check for bent bits. But as above, the ones in the pic look to be ok. Use die grinder or a grind stone to clean up any sharp bits.
Grab a head to put on it. I was going to say a Hyundai sonata, but I would be checking valve sizes. I would swap the used valves into your head, as they should be lapped anyway even if you using a different head

Can't tell from those pics but most valves look bent to me.

Thanks for all the positive reinforcement :)

tip the head on its side, and part fill the port with kerosene. it will piss out of any valve that needs to be either lapped or replaced.

for getting the valves out i use a f-clamp from bunnings and a bit of tube with a slot cut in the side, so you can flick out the collets with a screwdriver. some guys use a magnetic screwdriver, but i use a bit of grease to get the collets to stick
