17x8.5 OFFSET +40 Rear, Tyres: 235/45ZR17, Wear: 65%

17x7.5 OFFSET +30 Front, Tyres: 215/40ZR17, Wear: 65%

I know the width and offset is wrong but with the correct tyres will it even itself out?

I.e: 17x8.5 with 215.... and 17.7.5 with 235...??

or some similar arrangement.

on the rear of a VR4 you can fit up to..... 17X8 at +22, fronts would be 17X8 at +35 ish.... the width's arnt normaly a problem its the rolling diameter that can cause issues.....

it would be along the lines of.....

17X7.5 215/45R17
17X8.5 235/40R17

17X8.5 235/40R17


wont this have issues with the centre diff? because the rear will spin at a different speed to the front..?

Using diff width wheels at either end will result in you burning out transfer cases in pretty damn short order.

AWD Vehicles are not capable of running diff width wheels at front and rear. The driveline will run in permanent "slip" to the front and burn the VCD out.

Lots of the later model evo guys in the US run say a 9.5" front and a 9" rear. I think the claim was that it gave them better turn in or something like that. I doubt anyone if going to notice something like that on the street though.

With that said, you could probably do the same, but either way the tyres need replacing (to be the same on all 4 wheels) or as mentioned you'll be replacing the transfer case every few months.

that combination of tyres its pritty much the closest rolling diam you can get with that rim set up....

215/45R17 tyre has an approx diam of 626 mm
235/40R17 tyre has an approx diam of 620 mm

6mm wont make a huge difference.....
