So got stopped by the cops last night...

I know its a bad time of the year to be driving a modified car around the streets of Melbourne, let alone the south-east subrubs...



Driving down Stud rd late last night, and saw a cop doing a U-turn. As soon as I drove past him I thought "yep he's going to pull me over".

Without a doubt, cop car changes course and starts following me. 30sec later flash lights on and onto the side of the road.



1 of the cops start asking me about the car. "Whats with the wide wheels, is the car modified, etc"



He then proceeded to asking me to pop the bonnet, and he starts scoping around. Found my turbosmart boost controller and atmo BOV.



He says boost controllers are illegal, even though I have a switch to turn it on/off in the cabin. True?



He then says that no canarie will be issued as I obviously knew what I was talking about when he asked me questions about my ride, and he could see I'm an enthusiast. Pretty happy about that, considering it could have been much worse .



But he said I will be getting a letter from the EPA in regards to my BOV and boost controller :huh:

Whats this about and what does it involve???



His last comment, which I thought was pretty funny, was "Can't believe you haven't been harassed by the cops about your car before" :thumbsdown:

in regards to the stuff...

Yes anything that alters your emissions (ie changing boost) is illegal.

But he said I will be getting a letter from the EPA in regards to my BOV and boost controller

Ok you will probably be getting a letter from Vicroads to come down for an inspection and if the cop was really bad he could of got you for emissions too.
I guess if he spotted pod/cooler/exhaust etc..

If i were you i would return the car to stock ride height and stock emissions ie.. air box etc.
Make sure you have a copy of 4G63T emissions paperwork so you can prove that it came in a lancer etc...

Try do everything properly so they dont anally rape you and slap a GREEN sticker or a Canary on your car.

my guess is youll be going to macleod EPA testing station mate .... not good!

having said that, change your BOV to PB and remove/hide your boost controller and as long as everything else is pretty much standard youll be right.

so is this a RWC centre?? How do they test the car? IE do they road test it or put it on the dyno?

Where would I get a 4g63 emission paper from?
Also, can anyone tell me where abouts the 4g63t engine number is located? Might as well notify vicroads about the engine before this goes ahead.

Boost controller is not legal??? Is this only a VIC thing??? I have never been questioned in NSW...
Moved on from the DSM powered Sonata who put out 238kw @ the wheels .... To a GSR 2.0L that is now engineered .. :wub:

is more illegal that it's got a switch in the cabin. ADR states not meant to be able to alter the running of the engine from the cabin. Change boost = changes emissions = not legal for sure.

If that was his exact words, then what a fucking wanker.

But having said that, I think you're pretty lucky all things being considered... and as mentioned, BOV's and any boost altering device is illegal in all states and territories AFAIK.

Crap.. So S-AFC's and all that would be a no no as well...

I have never had a cop say anything about the AVC-R's in any of my cars...

And I also just put a MIVEC controller in the FTO...

Settle grettle :P ...it aint far from the truth now, is it? I'd consider myself lucky if I get away driving and not getting pulled over! My car before was/is a cop magnet... they see intercoolers and see $$$

Amen on the magna call.

I got pulled up last friday and the cop tried to nail me with a mobile phone while driving fine except call logs got me off (in that I hadn't had a call in 4 hrs).

He didn't even look at all 4 of my (bald) tyres... or exhaust, or illegally dark tints or anything. Because it looks like a magna :P

Is an Australian Design Rule that can't alter engine from cabin, so should be a national thing, not state to state. Even if is a bleed valve though, it can alter emissions so is an EPA thing.

Yeh the cop did mention any sort of boost control device, including electronic boost controllers, are illegal.

Far out. i've heard story's of how bad you guys have it over there but had no idea it went all the way to Vic.
Come live in tassy, half the cops down here are 2 lazy to pull you over and the other half wont look twice unless your actually doing something wrong.
I think i'll pass on visiting your fine city's in my car then. :S

Im from lonnie originally mate and I prefer it over here in some ways.

when I had my 1600 I was targeted by the cops all the time due to it being a smallish place(and a twin 45 webbered car) so officer redburn used to pull me over all the time to hassle/book me.(and even my mates if they were driving it)you have less chance of being pulled over here imo.

at least over here you would be unlucky to see the same cop twice, there are +s and-s for both places imo.

I got done for engine mod, no plate.. my bad in the end time just dragged on and never got to it. Final decision is to strip the car since DOT will rape my car and say revert most of it to stock and remove all gadgets.. :(
