Its an interesting format Easternats, I'm sure a 1 day 4GNats would be easier and more comfortable for everyone to pull off successfully remember this will be a maiden event so everyone is learning, the more openness of entrant categories just really adds & complicates the issue's of running a Nats event
eg. increases the odds of every variable that the event will throw at event organisers & volunteers a stress you' don't need, if you've been part of event side's of motorsport events you'll know exactly what I'm talking about + they have much larger budgets.

On Off Topic: I'd love to go on haunted hill's with MarineT in a Nats formatted event We just need someone to organise it lol we'll get to do it one day that's definitely on the cards. Its just when! not if

Jon, not meaning to shoot you down, but I think you are getting a bit ahead of yourself, as pretty much everyone has mentioned.

This first 4G Nats (if thats what we are going to call it), should be simple, from both an organisatory and participation perspective. Trying to have too many events over a 2-3 day timetable just sounds like an absolute nightmare at best - not to mention 2-300 cars. Its just not feasible to have that many cars, people and events in that timeframe, whilst keeping everyone safe, happy and satisfied.

I like the idea of haunted hills, I think that would be a great starting point, and definitely a venue that will attract a lot of interest from potential competitors.

Like Lorrie has been trying to organise, a face to face planning meeting of sorts would be the best starting point, the outcomes of which should be published to the forum and then go on from there.

These are all highly valid points, thanks everyone for your enthusiasm and input

I think if this would be to work it would make sense to heed ziad's words and set your sights a little lower for a first event.

Jon have you ever been involved in organising a motorsport event? 200-300 cars is slightly head in the clouds material don't you think?
I follow my local car club fairly closely and have a reasonable idea on the organising nightmare it takes to run a successful hillclim or sprint day which generally caters for a max entry of 45 cars- it is a hell of a lot of work and the numbers you are suggesting are slightly ambitious for (sorry I dont want to be rude or negative) a forum that struggles to get 10 cars turn up at a meet. Meaning that to be successful it will require interstate interest.

The suggestion that Winton is too far away...for who? do you assume that these "300" car of which you speak will all come from the centre of Melbourne?
Winton is a great track, hell I made the trip from Tassie to participate in the Nats and would do it again.
Haunted hills is also a brilliant suggestion, although I have never been there the pics and feedback from people who have make it look like an excellent facility.
You need to consider keeping entry costs as low as possible and providing maximum value for that entry fee as a lot of people will be making the pilgramige from interstate which is generally an expensive task alone without paying a large entry and receiving very little value for it.
Take the Evonats for example which was a very well run event and numbers were capped at a realistic level, the entry fee was similar that of your suggestion a well organised track day was held at a top notch circuit with plenty of runs to keep everyone satisfied, a well catered dinner was included after the track day with relevent guest speakers through the evening and on the sunday there was another motorsport day with the choice of a motokhana course or an unbelievably good short circuit at the deca facility. After tthe events was held I was given a $100 travel subsidy for attending from interstate. That in my eyes is great value for money even after spending $800 alone on getting my car across Bass Strait then paying for fuel, meals and accomodation during the event and I would do it again without hesitation due to the value for money it represented.

The track component of the proposal sounds great but the Sunday with the 300 cars and the $175 fee to have 3 goes at "go to whoa" does not sound like something that would warrant the huge cost of travelling and attending the event, and many interstate people may feel the same way.

Sorry again for sounding negative but as you will be requiring interstate attendants to make up the viable numbers value for money needs to be considered to make the travel cost seem justified.

Give yourself some time, this year should be chasing sponsors with a good plan laid out for them to organise their funding for next year. Approach anyone now in Q3/4 and I would suggest unless you have the whole event paid for up front and need nothing you will get a flat no!
Approach them now so they can set their budgets for next year you could be on a winner!

First job would be to set up the committee I see Entrant has put a lot of effort in so there is one is there anyone else you would need about 5!

There seems to be a lot of people who have parts in setting up stuff already and head their warning of starting small. We are all green to this!

Is Phillip Island out of the question as well???

How about not getting ahead of ourselves and just concentrate on a small single day event first, then go from there if its viable. Someone already mentioned you have to learn how to crawl before you can walk/run.

Just a question, if an event should be organised and held, will there be two classes? i.e. street-registered and purpose built? or would everybody be thrown in the mix together?

Just spit-balling here and Id like to see a State of Origin trophey put in the mix if there's a circuit event - where the top cars from each state get to battle it out for the ultimate prize :) This ensures no slower cars are on the track at the time and promotes the spirit of competition and state pride, something everybody can have fun giving eachother shit about. Yes Scott (Marinetowing) you get to race for Tassie and you'll cop the brunt of it lol :P TIC

just throwing it out there, just trying to think realistic

if it were to be 4g powered vehicles only how many numbers do you all think you will get? i think you would be lucky to get 50 4g powered vehicles (are there even 50 evo1-3's in vic?), at least for the first event, there would have to be some sort of reputation of the event to attract interstate competitors, and seeing as you guys are making it sorta "time attack/circuit" based then you would really only attract those that have decent suspension setups. anyone with a shitter setup will just piss off/annoy the slower cars and will be what everyone bitches about after the event. " it was a good event but the slower cars were just wasting time etc etc"

I for one wouldnt make the trip for a track day as i prefer drag racing. and you have to think that there are many others who think like me.

This is a link to the Toyota nationals for some insight, this year will be their 34th annual so they are doing something right. As long as its toyota powered it can enter.

If it were to be 4g nationals why would it be limited to E1-3 ? what about vr4's and all the other evo models?
I for one will be intending on entering in my 6.5 and not my GSR.
As for not wanting to take part in a circuit event because you feel your suspension or car is not set up for it I rook part in my first track day in my GSR with cut springs and stock shocks that were about 4 years past their use by date!! The car felt like a wet sponge but I had a blast:lol:
Like mentioned before there will be groupings so all cars that hit the track together will be running similar times.

with that setup would you have traveled 2000kms to race though? and also i dont think they shouldve let you on the track with cut springs, the officials at scrutineering shouldve picked up on that and sent you home, i wouldnt want to be on the track next to someone with chopped springs lol.

how many evo's are there in vic? less than 100 for sure. dont count on many interstate competitors.

dont think im being negative here im trying to keep it real, call me the skeptic if you want.

ok say 200, how many of those are owned by buisness men and weekend golfers? 1/4? how many of the 200 would actually flog their evo around a track and not worry about insurance etc? those few might enter.

I wouldn't make the trip down (2000k's) for 1 day of racing. that doesn't make sense. for it to work it needs to be in a central location for all. Us QLD'ers are just as passionate about our cars and racing them as everyone else. It hardly seems right to hold the event in victoria and make everyone else travel huge distances to get there. why not hold it in NSW and then the qld's that want to go can justify driving there, and it's still not too far for the victorians to go.

No I didn't but what I am trying to say is you don't need 6 grands worth of coilovers and a road unfriendly wheel alignment to compete and have fun!

Good point...glad they didn't look too close:P

-Mirage with a 4g15
-Hell even a datsun 1600 with 4g63?

thats another issue, even if i had a full track spec evo i prob wouldnt go all the way to vic to compete. will there be prize money offered? could change my mind, but would need to be 1k at least. maybe $500? that would mean tow car and trailer.

fun is go karting, but if im competing at an event and paying over $150 to enter i want to win. even when go karting im trying to win lol

ok so while we are on the topic of bitchen about who can and cant race in the proposed 4g nats.... What about the 4g5#'s and all the other 4g powerd mitsu's out there..... I know for a fact that if this was to happen in nsw a few people will be interested to bring there sigmas and old magnas out for the fun of it. in the end what is the point of it all????? So in saying that basicaly only turbo or fast cars can attend, i wont be able come down for a bit of fun and a great day out.......

the entry fee would prob be the way of keeping the slower cars like stock sigmas and auto cc coupes out, where the entry fee is higher than the price of their cars lol. seriously though its a speed/power event, weather it be circuit or drags you would be pretty retarded to enter a 70hp shitter. you rarely get those kind of shitters at street meets and the entry fee is only $45 there.

easiest way to keep the calibre of entrants decent would be to have a pre entry thing where people have to email pics of their car and give a list of mods and entry is at officials discretion, just like with powercruise.
