Okay false alarm!
With some fiddling (and a bit of brute force ) I managed to get the new strips on. They were only a little bent as it turns out and I managed to attach them securely. Well, I hope securely! I haven't taken the car over 80 kph since fitting them but they feel about as secure as the old ones.
Annoyingly they are missing the little plastic ends on the rear to stop the boot lid corners fouling against the edges of the strip, but I have found some black electrical tape which I think might just cover the ends up to stop this happening.

the rear tabs are horrible , mine fell off too, I used sikaflex and made my own
I also was at the wreckers and a CC GLXI was there with chrome stuck onto the strips and it looked really good , it wouldn't suite the evo to well though

I went to Pick-A-Part on Sunday and scored myself a nearly mint pair of Coupe roof strips (some marks but the paint isn't flaking off the metal like all the other pairs I'd seen) with unbroken clips, a Coupe plenum and a pair of wipers for $30!!
A couple of coats of K&H Bumper & Trim satin black paint on the plastics and some wire-brushing and satin black rollcage paint on the wipers and they'll look like new!

May be an old thread revival here but AFAIK Mitsubishi may have stopped making OEM roof strips.
I recently tried ordering MB696803 (L) and MB696804 ® via Amayama only to be told that the delivery time is 'unknown'.
EDIT:
Rang Proton Melbourne (03 9329 8862), prices are up to date as at 06/01/2015:
PW534221 - $93.23 +GST (in stock Sydeny)
PW534222 - $93.23 +GST (in stock Sydeny)
