hey,
had my eterna bout a month now and its started to make some clunking noises when releasing the clutch, it doesnt happen every time, it will occasionally do it when changing gears. can anyone identify this??
any help greatly appreciated.

gearbox noises

sounds like it could be clutch plate? depends what is fitted.
could be bouncing on the spline or a pad loose or even just worn out
you have 2 choices really pull it out and inspect the clutch and maybe the box internals if clutch looks ok.
or drive the sucker till it gets worse,slips or breaks.
Not very helpful but that is life.
O one other thing it could be is a crack in the clutch plate! that will give a clunk, thay normally have holes in the plate sometimes they can crack across to another, when they flex(pedal push or release) they will move giving a clunk sound.
if you are handy it could be worth a look just in case.

or a worn transfer case or uni joint, or centre bearing (carrier bearing) or transfer case yoke. or could even be slop in the diff.

yea dont really wanna have to rip it apart atm dont have a job so no money to fix it if it goes wrong might leave it for a bit nd see how it goes

depends if you hear a clunk or feel a clunk,engine mount you will feel it as well as hear it.
uni joint you will hear, and maybe get vibration as it gets worse.the clutch tends to rattle when its buggered,my nephew owned my eterna for 1 year before i got it from him and after a year of him finding how to do 4wheel burnouts it had a smashed springs in the clutch plate and the rivits were loose on the material disc.
but that was as well as alot of other things wrong, but thats another story

you dont have to rip anything apart just yet. you can jack the whole car up on 4 jack stands so all 4 wheels are in the air and get under it, twist the tailshaft back and fourth near the diff and listen for clunking in the diff, then do the same for the tail shaft centre bearing move it in and out grab both halfs of the shaft and try twisting in opposite directions, then check the part coming out of the transfer case, shake it at the uni joints etc grab the tailshaft and turn it left to right hard and listen for noises. if no noises then that pretty much rules out drivetrain. then just visually inspect the engine and gearbox mounts for cracks and wear etc. check everything else while you are under the car, maybe an exhaust mount broke or came off and is hitting the body????

nah i havnt but i dont know how the old owner drove it
ill jack it up this week while im on holidays nd see if i can find the problem
