Gav,

Plugs fouling could be due to either the tune OR spark plug type.
Do you have colder plugs?
Are they 7's / 8's / 9's???

With 25-30psi you should use something around the 8 heat range. Trial and error really.

6's are standard

Tune wise, are Haltech. Can you select your injector?
Does it have an idle map?
Is the o2 changing when you play with the tune?

As for box. It's really how long is a piece of string type thing.
From both what I've experienced and have been told, the evo3 box should be fine for what you have if it is in good nick BUT in saying that, it won't last forever. It will eventually break.

There are things you can do to prevent it from breaking but even once you do that, it will eventually break.

As for turbo. What do you have at the moment? A T51 isn't very efficient on a 2.0L.

Yer they are a heat range 6 coppers atm, i might bump the rating up a bit, but will confirm wiht my tuner first. But form talking to him its rich as hell at idle becasue of the cams (just have to look at the exhaust and you can tell anyway lol).
It has an idle map using the TPS not vac... As found the vac way was giving a worse tune for the idle.
Yer i realise it not going to last for ever, specially once i start taking it down the track.
ATm the trubo is a gt35R with a 1.06 Housing ( i still getting used to saying this is a big turbo hahah)
The T51r might be a little on the bigger size but the Kia is only rated 100hp more then the 35r and i plan to redo the manifold plus reduce the housing size.

When you do break the box give myself or Jetgsr ( Troy ) a holler. We are playing with these boxes a bit now.
You can make it live longer by setting up the preloads to more closely match what torque figures you are chasing. It's not too hard to do once you have all the correct gear to do it.
I've done it to mine ( Aspec VR4 ) and it is holding nicely running mid 11's at around 125.
But as Barry said, it doesn't really matter what we do to prep these boxes. They will break eventually.

How much time do you spend in a parking lot with your performance car? If you do a lot of parking lot driving, and hang out in parking lots, chances are you are a ricer, go home and read import tuner. If you’re complaining about noise you should not be modifying your car. You should also consider no longer being a man, please hand in your genitals at the door.

Why wait?
Learn from others. Build it while you have it!!
While your doing the turbo etc, take the box out and get it to Tim to setup correctly.
Better safe than sorry!

As for the GT35 with 1.06. Rob Barac runs a similar turbo on his Lancer and he is in the 9's!!

I'm sure you've got heaps left before you even need to consider going bigger.
I'd probably drop the 1.06 housing to a .82 in your case.
It should be good for 10's with the correct supporting mods.
How much power is it making at the moment? Have you had it tuned ?
You should be seeing more than 350kw's with that turbo. I'm running a smaller housing and making about 350kw's at 4 wheels on 24psi. I made better power with a GT30!!

Its on my list of things to do hahah, its a mile long atm...
As i said im happy with the turbo atm, just in the furutr.
It was running 22- 27 psi but was all over the shop, massive pia - cutting all the time etc.
With the new gate which should be a few weeks (damn hpc coaters take for ever) it will be back on the dyno to see check tune and see what it makes, will wind the boost upto where my fuel can go, hoping for a tad under 30psi.
I want 400AWKW's out of it on pump.
Just doesnt have the same kick as the ol supra lol
Then its out to willowbank to see if i can beat the surpa's time of 11.22 :)

Also have to put the teins back in once i get a softer spring (kidneys made me take them out, that and it kept leaving the ground on the highway)

still waiting for the wastegate..
i have gotten the flange separately so the manifold has been modified, ported and sent away with the dump to get hpc coated, everything except the gate should be bolted back together next week. unfortunately due to me breaking my collar bone i have to rely on my old man..

took this opportunity to change the belts and give it a full service as well. hopefully will be on the dyno with in 3 weeks.. fingers crossed.

Posted Image

Also bought a new steering wheel and gear knob because i could lol

Also change the belts, the power steering hoses and gave it a full service.
Took it for a quick spin and everything is runnign very nice.
Its running low boost at a steady 22psi all the way to 9000 rpm now adn no longer spiking all over the shop.

Will be at B-rad performance getting the screamer pipe and then tuned next week. Will post up vids and dyno results once it tuned.
Cheers

well no updates as the car has been just sitting in the garage as i broke my collar bone a month back. due to it being a really bad brake i will be out for another2 months.

i have sent the teins off to be reco'd and getting quotes together for a brake upgrades. Is anyone running AP, Brembo or stop tech brake kits?

Once i get my hands on them, i think the next shipment coming over is 6-8 weeks, i will also fix up the rest of the interior, ie replace rest of the interior panels and carpet etc.
And should have a new set of rims by then aswell. then its off to the panel beaters to have the body kit fixed and everything touched up. Then it will be looking as good as it should.

Also have to get it tuned...
Its either APC or Pitts, they are both around the same $$

Will ahve to wait until after the wedding though.. 12 days and counting eeeep!

high hopes for 400kw on pump theres a lot more behind the scenes trust me. Set your goal a lot lower like 330kw it wont make it on 30psi on e85 it might unless you have a lot of cash to spend dont push it. Theres a lot of other parts that will snape i can show you my boxes full, have you got a twin plate clutch.
