and how can you tell which is which??
Reason im asking is that ive just scored a '91 vr4 rs evo 0. (E38a- 0002XXX, l.s.d, short ratio gearbox, big 16g turbo, wind up windows, MD165808 E.C.U ,blah blah...)
BUT it has 3 blue top injectors an 1 yellow top injector, yellow top on #1 piston.
did some of the RS vr's only come with the blue tops?
and would the air flow meter have to been changed to run the smaller injectors??
sory bout all the Qs.
any help wud be gud..

Nothing, they are the same.whats the difference between a normal vr4 (j-spec) and a vr4 rs/evo 0 air flow meter/MAF??
Only prefacelift RS's (88 and 89 models) came with blue (450cc) injectors.Reason im asking is that ive just scored a '91 vr4 rs evo 0. (E38a- 0002XXX, l.s.d, short ratio gearbox, big 16g turbo, wind up windows, MD165808 E.C.U ,blah blah...)

Facelift (90-) should have ALL yellow injectors.
Your ecu will be causing the car to run LEAN. DO NOT BOOST IT.
And pay a visit to whoever you bought it from. It's not Mal's one is it?
irrelevant but no.and would the air flow meter have to been changed to run the smaller injectors??
Rob.

pre 89.10 vr4 rs's had 450's, 14b's and 3 bolt plate lsd and 205ps (pre facelift)
89.10 to 90.10 vr4 rs's had 450's, 14b's, 3 bolt plate lsd and 220ps (facelift)
after 90.10 they were all "evo 0" spec, 510's, 16G, 4 bolt plate lsd and 240ps
of course any car could've been modified by a previous owner, but that is how they would've left the factory.

there are 3 different specs of RS, depending when they were built (aside from the type of rear lsd the mechanical specs are the same as those years 'non RS' vr4's.
pre 89.10 - 205hp, 450's, 14b, 3 bolt mech lsd
pre 90.10 - 220hp, 450's, 14b, 3 bolt mech lsd
post 90.10 - 240hp, 510's, 16g, 4 bolt mech lsd (commonly referred to as Evolution, Evo 0 or RS-E).
the 240hp vr4's have afm part no: MD171249
the 220hp vr4's have afm part no: MD140241

late update, but the part no. on my evo 0 AFM is E5T02671
thats the number on top of my AFM too.
thanks 4 that.
removed all sparkplugs an found the ones fed from the lil blue 1s where white and the plug fed from the 510 was light brown.
have since ditched the miss matched injectors and replaced with 550s. runs alot better now.
