Pretty sure it should be tapered.

Should that be a taper thread to go in there? I thought straight threads needed a washer (like a sump plug or spark plug)

He said it should be tapered?
Bit confused.

I donno if it should be tapered or not. Im asking too. If oem is a banjo then op is correct, just needs a washer. Because the threads dont seal, the washer does.
it just didnt look like the head had a machined surface for the washer, so i thought a taper went there.

then i was thinking thats why it snapped- straight thread in a tapered hole. But thats not correct as a pipe thread hole is straight anyway. Its the male fitting thats tapered not the female.

Mine runs a washer, but it's not an aluminium fitting.

My previous setup had a washer there too.
And...I wasnt saying a banjo bolt should be tapered.

The fitting that was originally in there was just a steel fitting and it worked fine for the old garrett 2860rs except it was an3 where the new line is an4. It's deffiently not tapered after running a thred chaser through it. That's not to say it may not have had a helicoil run through it in the past. Anyways went back to pirtek and they rekon it was possibly casting failure. They gave me another one and it its in there fine now. I would have asked for steel but they didn't have any in stock and I wanted to install all the turbo lines this weekend. No other way better to spend a Saturday night 😀

The car had some progress after the weekend,

Friday night came and josh popped over with my fuel tank, Its mint, not a mark on it. Even better it was free after swapping some gsr parts for it that I had accumulated over the year. No more progress was made that night as we ended up chilling out in my garage talking shit for several hours.

Futher progress was made on Saturday. My mate Lucas popped over and that's were the real work began. Many hours later 1am in the morning, the turbo the GTX 3071r was finally fitted and all lines installed. The car is slowly making process. Its great having a large garage now to get stuff done.

Next on the list will be remaking the rear brake lines so the tank can go back in. After the tank is back in I can finish making the fuel lines under the car. Other little projects include, fitting the radiator and thermos, fitting falcon throttle body, sourcing and installing a evo sway bar. I also think I will be going a black and white and machined steel finish in the engine bay from now on.

How much time do you spend in a parking lot with your performance car? If you do a lot of parking lot driving, and hang out in parking lots, chances are you are a ricer, go home and read import tuner. If you’re complaining about noise you should not be modifying your car. You should also consider no longer being a man, please hand in your genitals at the door.

Yes there is an ever slight kink in the pic. The oil drain turbo fitting was too long and is going to be cut down so the hose bends better. At 1am in the morning that was the last thing on my mind.

So I finally finished Uni for the year, (Only 6 more subjects till I’ve completed me Bachelor of Civil Engineering Majoring in Structural and  Construction)  I’m back to only working full time so had some spare time to work on the gsr. I also have a few weeks off over Christmas so hopefully the gf will let me spend some time on the car. I have been procrastinating remaking the rear brake lines or some time now however finally started on it and was pleasantly surprised with how it turned out.  Since the fuel tank was still out it was the perfect time to do it.

Please excuse the dirty floors, my 1 year old daughter was trying to help me. Her favorite TV show is CARS, and she was watching it beside me.

Up the front in the engine bay, I also test fitting my  brand new Tial 38mm waste gate however due to the turbo sitting further back with this manifold, it actually touches power steering pump. The gate is 125mm long and the gap I have is only 110mm before touching the Pump. I did some research last night and found that the Turbosmart ultra gate is only 97mm long. This should easily fit, however first I will have to sell my second hand brand new Tial waste gate lol.

While I was moving a few months ago I managed to lose my lower radiator hose. I have looked everywhere however no success. I sucked it up and bought evo 3 silicon radiator hoses. I was unaware that they differ from VR4 hoses so I had to cut them to fit.  I should be able to get the bend of the intake pipe to work so that that the radiator hoses won’t rub. It should be ok for now until l I can source some different ones.

image_zpsmn7rmets.jpeg

Finally I ordered 2 sonic performance 10 inch thermos fans. They will be mounted on the front of the radiator. I am thinking I will just get the car started with this alloy radiator in however once all the bugs are sorted I will replace it with a narrower core. Below if a photo of some inspiration I need !

image_zpsuq04gyux.jpeg

I am also trying to find an Evo 2/3 front sway bar. If anyone has a spare one they want to sell please let me know.

Over the next few weeks/months I am hoping to have all the brake lines finished, tank back in and all fuel lines down and the engine bay all ready so it can go get wired up. :P

I would definitely get some poly engine mounts, as from personal experience the rock of the engine will allow the manifold to rub into radiator.

Yes I think I will, get some in and look at using a thinner radiator as well.

So finally back at work after a few weeks off and had great success with the car. My first week off was spent with the family however the second week was were the major work began.

The brake system is now finished and bled up with a rock hard pedal. I pretty much replaced every hardline and replaced the soft line with braided lines and fittings. What and absolute crap job it was doing the hardlines I will never do them again on the ground without a hoist.

Next the clutch system was reinstated however we quickly realise the master, slave and soft lines where stuffed from sitting around for several years. The master and slave were replaced as well as new braided soft line. Now the car has a nice hard clutch pedal.

Next the fuel tank was reinstated. A new one was sourced by Josh and was in mint condition as my old one disintegrated while being hydro cleaned. The tank went back in and easily cleared the remade brake hardlines. The rear sway bar was also installed.

I found out the hard way with the brembo handbrake cable though. I had evo 4 left and right cables and discovered the length issue between the 2. Thanks to Brent I have another left hand cable on order direct from Japan.

I'm currently in the process of reinstalling the front sway bar. Originally I was going to go evo 3 swaybar however due to the lack of them being for sale I've decided to run the gsr factory sway bar with modified swaybar links to fix to the evo 4 control arms. This saves me a heap of time and money.

The last thing to sort out is the fixing of the 3/8 fuel and return lines to the car. I have some extended custom mounting brackets being made and should tuck the line tight up to the underside of the car.

As you can see plenty of work has been done still lots to come.

Another big day working on the car,

Firstly we realised that the senders for the fuel pump had not been plugged in so out came the tank.

Next the front sway bar was reinstalled to the car. We are currently devising a suitable way bar link that will work with the evo 4 lower control arms and the factory gsr sway bar. Mitsubishi EVO Spares https://www.facebook.com/evoemporium came though with the left hand brake cable and the Brembo conversion was complete. They have only just started trading in evo spares and offer spares with out the evo tax that is usually associated with the brand name. They are currently dismantling evo 4 and 6's however should have a larger variety of stock in the near future. Check out their page and support them.

Finally the shifter was then reinstalled with new solid shifter bushes. Even just sitting in the car going though the gears it felt a lot firmer than the original 22 year old plastic items.

Thing are starting to look good with the car and coming along nicely.

More updates really soon.
