Finally after 5 years I found my filler cap, I removed it to use it for a colour match for the engine bay paint however had thrown it in a box. Now instead of having gsr parts spread across 3 houses its all in the one spot. Unfortunately it was in the bottom of the box and something heavy has scratched it however after a polish seems to look ok. I fitted it to the car however it makes the paint look so dull. I’m defiantly going to have to give the car a cut and polish now to make up for the last 5 years of sitting under a car cover.

Since i sold the S15 I have not had a car worthy of personalized plates, I was going through some boxes and found my old plates JAK387 or JAKE 87

Also had a bit of a play with the with the in-tank fuel pump and modified it to fit the cradle. Next job is to drop the tank and drain the a tank of 5 year

After putting the baby to bed last night I had a couple of hours to get some work done on the car. I decided to mount the surge tank. I had been procrastinating  about this enough and needed to get some work done. It was a tight fit and some of the bodywork had to be 'massaged' into place with a hammer to fit the areoflow undercar surge tank. I ended up having a extra fitting welded in for the surge tank for the return line from the rail. due to the lack of space, i found out that speedflow 90 degree bends are tighter than proflow so it was used in the corner. The 044's fit in pretty easy as well. The whole unit fits tight, high up on the body of the car. Eventually I will get up under there are repaint the underneath of the boot.

Here are a  picture of the nights work.

Cheers, It is such a tight fit to fit the surge tank in there. I hammered out the body work round the arch to fit. I also had an extra fitting welded in because the fittings at the side are to tight to have fittings on them. Ill make a cover for it as well eventually.

Yesterday after Lunch I returned to the office to find that there had been a blackout and all the computers, servers and phone lines were down. As I am a Structural Engineer and almost all our work is computer based the boss decided to send us home. (will full pay of course)

Since the gf was out and the kids where at school I took the opportunity to work on the car a bit more. I have since decided to strip the underside of the car and paint the rear section underneath before putting the surge tank back in.

I spend a few hours under the car with a wire brush on a drill and sand paper cleaning up 21 years of dirt. surprisingly there was only surface rust.

After dinner I decided to go out and do some more work on it. I made up and installed the front braided fuel lines. I have been putting a clear outer hose over the braided line to stop rubbing on the body/ other engine parts.

Below are a few photos from the nights work.

Over the weekend I had a bit more time to work on the car.

During the week I was able to redo the underside of the floor, stirp, prep and pain. It turned out great.

Next it was time to re-install the surge tank, It had already been fitted up but now was time to install the dual 044s. It was a tight squeeze bit everything all fits in there.

Cheers,

Just and acrylic automotive paint, from my paint supplier. I have amateur paint setup so just used that to paint the car.

It wasn't even on my list however after looking under there I thought it would be better to do it before mounting the surge tank.

Next I have to get the fuel tank high pressure cleaned and the connecting fuel lines finished off.

Last night had an hour or so after the kids where in bed so had a bit of a play with the gsr. I decided to dummy fit up the manifold with the GTX 3071r. I also fitted up the radiator and even though its a tight fit, nothing was touching. I  removed the front and rear engine mounts and rocked the engine backwards and forwards and nothing touched. I might trim off the factory fan mounting points for a bit more clearance. I'll be running dual 10 inch slimline thermo fans on the front.

I also had a phone call from the high pressure cleaners that were looking after my fuel tank, apparently the tank is stuffed. It had been rusted out years ago however it has been recoated with something hiding the rust. This  is most annoying now.

Looks as though u have the same exhuast mani as me. And I had trouble with the engine rocking forward (engine braking I imagine) and came in contact with the radiator, hence why I went a half size rad. Although I never had poly mounts.

Yes it was rocking backwards and forwards, didn't seem to have any issues. yes if I had issues or do down the track I will do a half radiator or find a new radiator that I can mount inside the radiator support.

Yes no more daily's. I just sold my old vectra about 20 mins ago for $400 lol. I try to do as much as I can but it will be going to a workshop for the fabrication and ecu install. Its ok cause its my best mates brothers workshop and its all being done for cost + a bit for him.

I am now entertaining the idea of doing a fuel cell in the car now.

So after a few weeks I finally sourced a gsr fuel tank, looks in way better condition than mine, should do the trick. Swapped some spare gsr parts for it so all in all it wasn't a bad thing to have happen

image_zpsmaakdtom.jpg

Last night things went horribly wrong. During the week I ordered all the lines and fittings for the turbo. Yesterday they turned up so decided to fit them up until this went wrong. A Pro-flow fitting broke off in the cylinder head. As bad as it sounded it actually came out pretty easy, on closer inspection the fitting looks like it was a few mm longer than the hose and on the last turn of the spanner sheared off. Ill be back to Pirtek this morning for a replacement fitting, maybe this time in steel.

Ive put aero and pro flow fittings side by side with the cheaper brands and besides some having a cleared aluminium and others block out paint, theyre bloody identical, even snapped a couple in the vice with a torque wrench to compare...
Long term its gunna save me some coin!

Should that be a taper thread to go in there? I thought straight threads needed a washer (like a sump plug or spark plug)
