I think they could have gave the car to a family that need some help in tuff times rather than crush it , Im sure some local dealerships/workshops would help out with parts/ service etc etc,

http://theage.drive....10v4v.html#poll

otherwise your going to get alot more hoons in really unsafe cheap cars that they dont care if , they end up crushed, its not a win in my book

still looks like banana when it come out of there :)

I had some nice irony when watching the video clip.
Advert for the new Alfa with "More power"

but yeah, very stupid.
I feel sorry for the car, which sounds weird, but I feel sorry for it.

I dont think the crushing laws will make a difference at all. The VIC govt have given people the 3-strikes and you're out approach. That means if a car gets impounded 3 times its off to the crushers. What's to stop the owner from selling it after the 2nd time it gets impounded and reset the counter on their new car? Its people that hoon, not cars. There should be tougher fines, driver training courses and ultimately imprisonment for serial offenders.

I find it funny how the government can allow all this. Especially when considering that they don’t even know the meaning of the word HOON.

For example, these days vandals are being charged under the anti hoon legislation's, lol wtf! Hows that for categorization, according to our government criminal behavior is hooning.

has to have no money oweing on it and not be aprimary family car i believe, ie if your out in mum and dads car they wont crush it.

the other big problem i believe is that the 3 strikes your out is atached to the car and there isnt any mention of the counter being reset, so there is a chance you could buy a car with 2 strikes, get caught once and have it crushed (would be hard to get thru if you took it to court you would think, but you still have to fight it if they do that

The strikes are under the drivers name. It would be stupid if it were attached to the car, Lol.

Plus you go to court well before the car is is seized.

Its just a big political stunt in my opinion. There was a lot of discussion on the radio stations recently about how no hoon cars were crushed since the law's inception and wouldnt you know it, they crush one and make a media circus over it within a week.
I thoroughly believe crushing cars is not the answer as it will incite hatred and contempt toward the authoriities doing it. Its the psychology behind it - many people actually do get quite attached to their own cars. When you destroy something dear to a person that they have spent a lot of time, money and even love in creating and caring for you're at high risk of them engaging in retribution in one form or another.

i have heard conversation in the media implying that it is attached to the car. maybe its a mix of both, not sure,

either way it is not going to help the way the powers that be want it to imho

When ever ive seen the media showing either siezed hoon cars or destroyed ones, they seem to be standard looking commodores or pintaras etc,The type of car that some young person that dosent care about ,just a car they want to thrash.
You know the type, the ones that drive around in a commodore with mags on the front and standard rims on the back. They then take off the air cleaner and drop the muffler off ,then drive the car around like they stole it.
Ive never really heard much of the expensive modified cars like gtr sylines and evos and even wrxs bieng destroyed, more of just impounded.

If you leave an unregistered car on the footpath/ nature strip, they will eventually impound it.
If it is passed in at the next sherrifs auction, it will sold for scrap, currently arround $140/ tonne for car bodies at the moment.
Its just how the law gets rid of un-claimed cars.

They are just applying it to the hoon laws. Why the media involvement? Just a chance to make something of nothing, a slow news week, IMO.

If the car was a heap of crap, with problems, the owner probably took the cheap option and let them keep the POS commie. He would have been up for more than the car was worth, to bail it out. His problem will be the sherrif wants his dough and won't forget his name. And the sherrif will get it, sooner, or later with interest.
