I'm planning on buying a ECMTuning package for my Evo ECU soon as well. I would also like to obtain the full feature set that is offered in the FULL version :)

I'm here. We still have no specific plans to provide a full EVO1-3 release. It's not that we don't want to, we're just busy on other projects right now. In particular, we're doing some pretty cool stuff with injector profiles that we'll try to incorporate into the ECU code at some point. But it's a very time consuming project.

2G ECUs are like later Evo ECUs, they have 4 plugs, use OBDII, etc.

It's only a couple of wires to swap. Nothing major.

Of course, it would be nice if we just get off our butts and do a full update for the early EVOs....

But until then, the 2G ECU swap is actually a very nice option specifically because it opens up more analog inputs for logging stuff like fuel pressure or oil temp or boost while running a MAF.  It also lets you run the factory narrowband front O2 sensor for smooth closed loop option at idle and part throttle *and* log a wideband sensor on the rear O2 at the same time.  I personally prefer this setup simply because you just can't beat the factory narrowband sensor at doing what it does.

To swap a 2G ECU, though, you're going to need to also run an external OBD2 adapter out of the ECU since the early EVOs use the older 12-pin style connector that's not only physically incompatible with the 2G cable but it's also electrically incompatible with the comm circuit inside the ECU.

If ya going through the hassle of an ecu swap why wouldnt ya just go with the evo 7 (or 5,6, or 8) ecu instead?
How does the 2g ecu compare to the 7 ecu for example?

The 2G ECU is older, slower and comes in a crappy metal case.  The EVO 7/8 ECUs are faster, newer and come in a pretty black plastic case.

That said, a 2G ECU can run ECMLink and an EVO 7/8 can't.  And least not yet (or anytime in the near future).  So, if you want to run full V3 ECMLink, you run a 2G DSM ECU.  That's the primary reason someone would choose to run a 2G DSM ECU over an EVO 7/8 ECU.

Is that enough reason for everyone?  No, certainly not.  Is it enough for some?  Yes, certainly so.

Was more curious about how the e7 ecu stacks up against the 2g ecu with the ECM link

You have to repin the hole ecu plug as going from 3plug to 4 but most of the pins are the same as the 2g dsm il take some photos of it on the weekend

sorry for bringing up a dead post but I was hoping for an update on this as well Tom, it seems most of the users here are very game for full version of link for our evos. Not to mention the US will have them as well. Put me on the list for full version.

I think its more likely that they will withdraw the evo support. Unless things have changed and they have found more suitable chips.
