Thought I'd finally put a post up of my Aus Spec VR4 which Ive had for a couple of years now. My goal for the car is just to make it a nice street car with a bit of poke to it.
The car is my daily but I will probably take it down the drag strip occasionally.

* Fix the paint and shopping trolly dents
* Replace front right CV joint
* Fix idling issue (idle drops low for some reason...data logging time)
* Install Amp and subs
* Clean up the engine bay
* General TLC

Future Plans / Wish List

* 20G turbo
* 17" Volk te37's (black)

Thanks guys. You cant really tell in the photos but the paint still needs some work.
My gfs Dad and I sprayed the bonnet, bumper and fixed up some clear coat that was fading a couple of months back but we didnt quiet finish it off properly due to some things that came up. I'm thinking about spraying the rest of the car now so if that goes well it should look pretty good.

looks good.... but damn you and your projector fog lamps!!! :P

Haha yeah the projector lamps look good :)

Intercooler is a Custom made PWR cooler. Purchased it off VR42LT some time back. Its 600 X 255 X 75 with 2.5" piping and it only just squeezes in.

Ok so bored at work. Heres a bit of an update which Ive copied off another forum so might be a bit of double up information etc.

So I thought I'd finally make a post for my 92 Aus Spec Galant VR4. I bought this car about 4 years ago with 220,000 on the clock and it was relatively stock at the time except for lowered springs, koni shocks, 16G turbo from an evo, manual boost controller which was set too high and a fuel pressure reg which was doing nothing.
Below is a bit of a list of stuff Ive done to it which got it to its currernt state.
Throwout bearing died about 5000kms after purchase so replaced clutch with an RPM heavy duty item
removed manual boost controller
removed aftermarket fuel pressure reg
Installed a front mount intercooler and piping kit
installed a turbo back 3 inch exhaust
installed a walbro fuel pump
Found a genuine RS bonnet and RS front bumper both of which are pretty rare.
installed a Gizmo boost controller
Professionally crafted my own home made screamer pipe (not dodgey at all)
Attempted respraying the bonnet, bumper, boot, and roof.
Added some rain guards
Also around this time I bought a spare parts car off my mate and stuck it out at my parents block of land in Oakford and then started raping and pillaging it for parts... much to his discust.
Decided that I had enough of the VR4 as it had a lot niggling issues that kept mounting up so I bought an R33 and ended up selling the VR4 to my housemate who also used to have one previously. While in his possession he went out and bought some new Advanti Talon wheels and also got talked into buying an over priced press bent 3" exhaust but Other than a few extra km's and a few extra problems it stayed the same.
After a change in circumstances I decided to sell off the R33 and he needed to sell the VR4 so I ended up buying it back off him. Since buying it back Ive decided to get the car back to an acceptable state before I start adding on the fun bits again.
So far I have
Replaced the battery terminals due to corrosion
Replaced the front wheel bearings as they were grinding hard
Rebuilt a throttle body to stop an issue it had with stalling
Rinstalled the MAF can to cover the POD filter
Bolted the dump pipe back up to the turbo properly....curtesy of the fine folk at mitsubishi who my mate took to for a service (dump pipe was missing two bolts and a third one was very loose. they also didnt tighten up the oil return lines properly and was resulting in a leak.)

Still to come
Source some replacement wheels as my mate cracked a spoke on two of the wheels just after he had them put on.
Replace leaking talishaft yoke which is a commond problem for these cars
replace the shifter bushes as they are very worn and the shifter is very sloppy
remove stock fuel reg and install and aftermarket one as they run very rich with the bigger fuel pump
buy a new antenna
decide on an upgraded ECU setup (probably ECM link)
install EVO MAF sensor
install 550cc injectors
fix rust patch on the rear pillar
respray car (thinking sattin or matte black)

How it looks now

Cracked Rims
Posted Image

Been doing some shopping for the VR4 and picked up these Work Emotion CR Kai's. The plan was to repair the rash and get them powder coated however they seem to be a bit more of a tighter fit than I was expecting so I may need to source some new rims. Should be receiving some more parts in over the next couple of weeks.
Also decided to start on the nasty rust patch on the rear pillar. Should be getting some tax money back soon so I hope to get a mig welder so I can repair it properly.

My awesome boost leak tester
Posted Image
Made up a new intake with a cheapo kit I bought from Malz. Boosts higher than the stock one and causes the stock ecu to hit boost cut.
Posted Image
Might as well change the fuel rail and reg while I do the injector o-rings

Picked up another 16G

ECU and wiring but not sure if I will use it on this car or get an ECM link.

Picked up some more stuff for the VR4 on the weekend as seen in the below pictures, also received a new 1 bar wastegate actuator as currently the wastegate is opening way too early...sometimes around 6 psi.
Picked up this car from another galantvr4.org.au forum member, the car has been stripped of most of the running gear but has the body and interior mostly intact. I am mainly after it for the some of the body panels and the tail shaft. Might cut it up and have a bit of fun with it before I send it off to the scrap.
Posted Image
Also picked up a spare jap spec motor that supposedly only has 117kms...hopefully its true but doubtful. Dont have any plans for it just yet but may be going in another car that I'm waiting to receive.

Out with the old in with the new.... Bought this one from a guy in Karratha off Ebay and finally managed to get it sent down to Perth. This one is a Jap spec VR4 and is pretty much complete except that the head has been removed to fix an unknown bottom end issue. It's mostly stock except for some D2 coilovers and I am planning to put the motor I recently acquired into this one to get it re-registered so I can start doing some track days with one of them.

So I took the car off the road to swap out the leaky tailshaft which was meant to be a 1 day job...2 months later its going again.
While I was at it I thought I'd swap out the turbo which was a good idea as the 16G had a decent sized crack around the wastegate flapper, unfortunately it was a downgrade to a 14b.
Installed a Kinugawa 14PSI wastegate actuator
Ended up stripping a bolt into the oil return so pulled the sump off the silver car.
1st gear would grind when going in so found a FWD / AWD selectable gearbox and transfer case to swap it out for.
Swapped over the wheels from the Silver car as a couple of the black ones were cracked.

So far so good. The driveshaft doesnt seem to be leaking anymore and the car pulls alot harder with the new turbo. I think I may have a bit more love back for it...at least until the next thing breaks.

Still on the to do list.

- Sort out boost leaks
- sell some of my spares and buy an ecmlink
- get some bigger injectors
- install fuel rail and FPR
- bigger turbo
- clean up the exterior
- slap on the CR Kai's
- start pulling the motor out of the silver car

Had a heap of progress on the silver J-spec over the weekend with special thanks to VR42LT who helped me out big time.

In short we swapped out the motor for the spare one that I had bought a while ago. Unfortunately we didn't quiet get it to the point of being able to turn it over but it is fairly close.

Still on the To do list-

Replace radiator end tank
Clean out the remaining intercooler pipes
Source some bolts to mount the turbo to the exhaust manifold
Remove snapped exhaust manifold stud
Fix busted front CV joints
Investigate rear diff which may be farked
Buy a battery

Overall it was pretty successful bar a few minor hiccups but once I sort out whats left on the to do list it should hopefully be up and running.

The Spare

This is basically the condition of the engine bay when I received the car minus a few pipes etc. It even came with the strap ready for it to be lifted out.
