Found this article on DSM tuners about solving the noisy lifter problems on 4G engines in general. Interesting read

From reading the post, the guy suggesting the mod says it's useful to do if you've had the head re-surfaced a couple or more times.

Does that mean it would only be of used on a machined head, and wouldn't cure lifter tick on a stock engine?

Either way, very good to know if you have a machined head on your 4G though.

Unless you know a way to machine every lifter in your head with a larger opening than stock the only way to cure Noisey lifters in to throw a set of 3G lifters in
which are made with a larger oil hole in the top 3x the size of stock oem lifters

You may get a few bandaid solutions like oil additives but they are all bandaid maskings to actual problem not curing it.

3G lifters all the way bro.

There's a gazillion posts on this subject anyways, search button is your friend

I disagree, sort of, 3G lifters will fix the problem, but cleaning all the original ones will also fix it, and is much cheaper.

Mines done 30k+ km's since I cleaned them and it still 100% tick free.

You are meant to sit them in diesel for a night and then follow these instructions:

Then reinstall.

You could use carby cleaner and blast them also and sit them in diesel again.

Once I clean them, I sit them in engine oil to try and fill them up again before install then I bleed them just to get them to pump.

It does take some time to do and it also takes some time to pump up in the engine.

I used some Promar additive on my *slightly* ticky lifters and have not heard boo out of them in over 50k kms. Mind you I change my oil every 5k kms.
