On all front wheel drive Mitsubishis, the floor pan tunnel looks big enough for a tail shaft, but when you get an AWD car then you see how that tunnel is almost twice as big as the front wheel drive car and will limit the tailshaft diameter. As far as independent rear ends go, thought about Starion?. Starions are independent rear end with a 1400mm track and have a diff that uses a V shape cradle to hold the diff centre in. The Starion wouldn't be much different in width to the cordia, but I haven't checked on this. JA Starions were 3.545 diff gears, JB and JD starions were 3.909 Diff gears.

I'm not so sure on that, it doesn't help that the photo's he put up aren't working. But he originally said they guy he bought his car (FWD) off owned a 4wd and he was going to do the conversion to AWD using the vr-4 gear...

Lets just say some of us have been members on the cordia forums for quite some time and have a collection of awd cordia photos. This includes the ones you are now unable to view. Here is proof.

I had one back in NZ I was only 16 an was into bikes so couldn't tell you anything about the drive train etc other than it had 2wd an 4wd lever an low/high range, low range was real low. I could beat just about anything off the mark but it was flat out at maybe 60 clicks in 5th. It over heated an blew the head gasket, so I sold it for $200, hind sight is a mother fucker

I am not denying that it would be pretty damn cool to have an 4WD Cordia.. but with all the hassles, my question is why?

To me, a Cordia is basically a really ugly, old, outdated version of a CC coupe. Why not convert a coupe into a 2door evo instead?

Pros:

/ Looks better (esp with evo front end!)

/ Has been done countless times

/ AWD conversion is pretty straight forward, everything bolts up etc!

/ All the parts can be had with minimal hassles

/ Newer

Cons:

/ Not a Cordia

Why would you want a CC when you could go and buy a cheap EVO 5 or 6? Same reason why someone might want a 4WD Cordia!

Sleepers FTW

The cordia is a classic, just like the Starion...........not may of us have one (or 2).......but to have a genuine 4WD would be priceless, not many of them were made and imported to Australia..........who cares about a CC or EVO Lancer they are rubbish.
