What size semi slicks are people running on 17 inch rims.

I know that Dougmo is running a 215/45/17 slick on his car but I was wondering if they would actually fit on the back of a standard EVO II with 5 stud conversion on EVO V rims?

These look like a great price as I need to recover some costs without spending the $1600+ for Dunlops or RE55s

4 X NEW 215-45-17 TOYO R888 SEMI SLICK RACE TYRES! for $1250 delivered to QLD.

The RE55s is 10mm wider than most tyres so that would need to be a 205/40/17 is this the same for other tyres?

Is the 45 to high so should I be running a 40 profile?

Mate, I have two basically brand new 215/45/17 RE55's that you can have for $250 each if you want. They cost me double that!

Let me know!

I run 215/45/17 aswell, the rears are about as close as you want to get, and have to run a little extra camber and ride height over ideal to get them to fit.

I have used a 235x40x17 on the car too, however that was with the car sitting at gravel height.. so you probbaly dont want to do that :)

Do you think you could get the 215 on or would it have hit the rear trailing arm?

On the Coupe it would have hit the rear trailing arm - just too tight.

I run 215/45/17 on my coupe, but i had to run 8mm spacers on the front coz of the crap offset wheels made the tyres just hit on the stock struts

with 17x8 +34 i have about 3mm clearance from the rim to the trailing arm. I have 215 45 falken azenis which I think arent as wide as re55's for example. The falkens are a small stretch on 8inch rims which works out well so that even when the tire is loaded and the sidewall flexes it still never contacts the trailing arm. With a wider tire you may need to run a spacer with this offset, depends how much side wall deflection you get. The tires just tuck under the rear (rolled)guards with standard camber adjustment, with aftermarket camber arms they clear everything easily.

my bad mine are 205/40/17 on a rim with +42 offset

could fit 215s with that profile but if i went 45 height then it would be very close to rubbing etc

So going by that and this site I will have 4mm extra clearance on the inside.

luke have you modified the tab on the front of the rear bar?

that will get in the way, so does have to be bent up,modified.

evo00x did a great write up a while back on how to do it nicely,
I just heated mine and bent them up and cable tied them... a bit rough.

Mine are already cable tied so I just have to bend them up.

Off to the brake shop today. I have acquired some space savers for the rears and I am trying to locate a used 215/45/17 semi slick from dunlop to mount up and see if it fits.

I have been to see the car and it looks impressive.

The EVO IV rear hubs I got weren't ABS so they have machined up some new backing plates and it fits perfectly. Whilst there I fitted up a Tommi Mak wheel and it fitted on the rear without scrubbing on the trailing arm whilst the car was up in the air. The best thing is that it had a 235/45/17 inch tyre on it. I assume that it will hit the guard but atleast I can be confident that I can run the 215/45/17 no problems.

good stuff luke, good to hear its coming together.
Tyre to trailing arm should have had about 3-4mm clearance.

what did they have to machine up for the hubs?
the abs ring bolts to the back of the hub normally, did they have to just tap the holes?

I have no idea. From what they said they welded on some metal and machined it down as there was no rear collar.

Apparently it is all sorted and they are happy with it.

They have also machine down the front hubs to make the calipers fit nice and snuggly on the rims and the hubs so there is no going back to EVO II Brakes.
