These are the results.
was a brick that broke the screen, not a head.
you can see in this pic above that the nut is still on the tierod but the tierod is disconnected from the knuckle.
this is the knuckle and you can see that the break is clean and fresh. this is not a old crack.
i dunno, but i am suspicious that the driver may have clipped the traffic calming chicane, lost control and smashed into the kerb, breaking the steering knuckle and then going throught the fence. Though there may be some other steering issue that caused the ute to leave the road. But i drove it about 1 week prior, but last time the ute was out and the steering was fine, not sloppy, loose, or noisy. and it had a alignment and safety check when the wheels were fitted roughly 1500km ago.
The first pic shows the road where the ute was travelling, and you can see the keep left sign in the middle of the road near the chicane. Direction of travel is from far to near..
the ute has been pulled out of the fence before the pics were taken.
im still at work, so i dont know if there is some other steering problem yet, i dont know the full extent of the damage either. I will probably apply the same rule as the insurance companies. If the A pillar is damaged, i will bin it...;(
