so, the mrs let another person drive the ute around the corner for a errand. she recieved a phone call a short time later saying that the ute had lost its steering and gone off the side of the road and through a brick fence.
These are the results.
IMG_0361.jpg IMG_0362.jpg
was a brick that broke the screen, not a head.
IMG_0363.jpg
IMG_0366.jpg
you can see in this pic above that the nut is still on the tierod but the tierod is disconnected from the knuckle.
IMG_0369.jpg
this is the knuckle and you can see that the break is clean and fresh. this is not a old crack.

i dunno, but i am suspicious that the driver may have clipped the traffic calming chicane, lost control and smashed into the kerb, breaking the steering knuckle and then going throught the fence. Though there may be some other steering issue that caused the ute to leave the road. But i drove it about 1 week prior, but last time the ute was out and the steering was fine, not sloppy, loose, or noisy. and it had a alignment and safety check when the wheels were fitted roughly 1500km ago.
The first pic shows the road where the ute was travelling, and you can see the keep left sign in the middle of the road near the chicane. Direction of travel is from far to near..

the ute has been pulled out of the fence before the pics were taken.

im still at work, so i dont know if there is some other steering problem yet, i dont know the full extent of the damage either. I will probably apply the same rule as the insurance companies. If the A pillar is damaged, i will bin it...;(

Thats shithouse mate!! Do you know who borrowed the ute? does she torque steer much? Maybe the driver gave it abit and wasnt used to the torque steer
and put it into the concrete road divider?

the ute was making a racket on the front brakes, it is out of pads, pads are 150 odd bucks, so i have moved the brake conversion up to high priority.
i want to use my 4pot subaru calipers from a my99 wrx, beccause they are here. they have the brembo bolt spacing.
i have bought some 297mm magna awd rotors, and slotted them myself

the brackets are of 12mm plate as required for engineering, i have cut them out and they are tapped, just need to clean them up and locate the other 2 holes, hope the hoses bolt up...

Bad luck with the ute mate....
Could the above have played a part in the accident considering the car had shit/worn brakes?

Yea, maybe. There was about 2mm of pad left, and the squealers were touching the rotor. I bent the tabs out so I could use the pads down to the last 0.5mm. This won't compromise brakes as it allows mums and dads to realize something is wrong with the brakes and take it to the mechanics for a pad change. But 2mm of pad can be 30% of pad life, I just was utilizing the last 2mm, till the brake change.
I will look at it though.

Yea, I know the driver.
The ute is not a bad tourque steerer, it pretty good with 2 piece shaft on passenger shaft.
Handling is still understeerer like stock, the more you give it, the more it understeers. It may snap oversteer if you back off but I don't know. It doesn't have a rear roll bar, so I don't think it would snap oversteer, anyways you don't drive a borrowed car that hard.

Front rad support it stuffed, sill is stuffed, all front panels and door need replacing.
Car will need to be racked, where door bolts on needs pulling back out, and left chassis rail needs pulling down.

Couple of pages ago, I mentioned some goodies I got, I shall reveal these as a full evo2 front end.
I also cut a rad support off a shell ages ago for the intercooler mounts.
These parts will come in handy now.

Cutting the rad support panel off now
Panel beater says around 4k plus parts to fix ute.
Prob still easier to fix than replace...

Some boxes arrived for me.
Before the ute was damaged I was looking for a turbo setup for the Hyundai 2.4 engine that will be built up.

I bought bazeng gt35r setup off his vr4, there is some awesome work in this setup, and good enough for mid10s on the 1/4 mile. This should be very nice on the lighter ute.

I think the jumbuck front end is similar to the satria, so might aswell buy one start replacement on the parts you needed...

Guards and doors are different to a satria

If he wanted to get a doner car then he's better off getting a Proton Wira/Persona, or a cc lancer and do a lancer front end

Evo2 front end is going on, vented Ali bonnet, wide guards, etc, I have a radiator support from a cc Gsr that will be welded on.
Sill panel is available new from proton.
Door? Not sure yet, Proton or lancer.
Front knuckle, verada, Gsr, or proton. Price and availability will dictate.
Don't really need that much to warrant a wreck being purchased.

Fastest jumbuck then?

The radiator support is sliding on to the chassis rails nicely, this indicates the rails are in the right place. Yay
Sill panel is nearly off

Yea, it still has to be racked to pull the door hinges back out, the panelbeater will check it then.
It's one of the roboaligner racks, you put it onand tie it down and the computer pulls it straight. Cool

Panelbeater says it cost him a huge amount of money (can't remember but it was like $40 or $60k) and he pulled the rail on a outback we had and it came up really good, I was impressed.
I'm not going to tie it to a tree and yank it out, lol

It was one of their customers. Havent seen or heard of it for a while. was using a hilux rear end and EVO motor.
HID stands for "High Intensity Discharge", or if you dont adjust them properly, "Hi I'm a Dickhead".
