even the carbide cutter is slow work, the weld affected zone is soooo hard. and this is the spare housing that i am practicing on. i have bruises on my hand from holding pressure on the press
there are axle ends that are available, i am thinking they may be better, just cut the old end off and weld in the new end.

given up on drilling the tubes off, the el diff is at the scrap yard, minus the gears and axles.
but have bought a axle end from altra9.
IMG_0077.JPG
IMG_0078.JPG

these look awesome, and darren and tamara are very helpful. 1 thing is that the ends are machined to suit 9" axle tubes, but darren had no problems in machining these down to suit my tubes.
available to suit a heap of different axle ends for different brake backing plates. awesome.
just smash them in, line them up, and weld em on. they were roughly $150 with machining and overnight delivery

waiting for the el axle to come back from the machine shop, as the bearing locating shoulder needs machining to suit the au housing. there was a change in the abs rings so slight change in axle machining. shoulder needs moving about 6mm out towards axle end.
will take housing over the road for my special welder to tig up. he does chrome moly speedway chassis build and repair. his welds are a work of art and is a shame to put paint on them. so no real issues for him

cleaned up centre support for tailshaft. you can see little hole saw mounted in drill press that makes this real easy. took less time than for the mrs to go to yukkydonalds and back

tailshaft holder welded in. also the wideband has arrived, so will weld bung on as well while exhaust is off.

for some reason the carpet is all wet under the carpet, so waiting a bit to dry it out.

also the bloody front part of the tailshaft is bent, so chasing another with a wtb post.

ecmlink ordered.
axles back from machine shop. the splines arent quite deep enough on the axle. they need to be about 6mm longer. either need to cut the splines or cut the female side of the splines out so axle can go 6mm deeper.

used bgmtz sound meter and got a suprising 103db inside cab (borrowed his ear muffs too) was a little bit of led zepplins 'dazed and confused'
i have a audioline 12" sub behind drivers seat and soundstream 6.5" splits from malaysia. drive them with 2x pioneer 300w 2 channel amps. 1 drives splits and other bridged for sub. head unit is double din dvd, 7" screen, gps. internet special. is not too bad. eh!
mrs is jealous of the stereo, so have got her a 12" clarion in box and a old school v12 to run it. she only listens to pink so it doesnt matter too much

pulled rear diff down, and cut the lsd cone splines down with the carbide burr. tried to take it to the lathe man, but noone was there, then ran around trying to find someone else with a lathe. ended up giving up and using the burr.
anyway axle flanges are the correct distance apart now, so just need to reweld bearing holder on end of tube as pictured couple of posts above.
my concern is that the leaf spring is going to be in the same spot as the handbrake cable, going to wait and see where it runs in case i need to rotate the brake backing plates

todays efforts were to pull front springs back out and put the kings lows back in. the other looked cool, but were a bit low for day to day use.
also while it was up in the air, the old gsr had those antilift castor blocks on the back of the lower control arm, so i swapped them in as well.
hard to tell if any difference, it seems to sharpen steering a bit, maybe snaps back to centre faster.

spewin, i remember i was going to put the gtech in, so i had a cornering before and after gforce measurement. will get a alignment next week

bolted transfer case in today and bolted front half of shaft up. thanks to rxvii for sending the tailshaft
also put some hid in the low beam and adjusted lights as well. going to put some in the high beam as well, but i dont like how they take a bit to warm up. at the moment if i drop back to low beam it takes a moment for the lights to fire up. when i put the 35w hid high beam in, i will change wiring so that when on high beam, the lows stay on as well, seeing that it only 70w total on each side, the stock wiring should handle it fine

also did the mod application for the rear diff, have a engineer lined up as well. on the application i will have to put the engine and brakes and everything. i imagine i will be up for a im240 and noise test and all.
oh well, have to pull the tint off, and put some steel wool up exhaust pipe. other than that, it will be not too bad. for the weight i am allowed a 2.4 turbo as well...

got wheel alignment on friday. toe out was awry as you might imagine, with the addition of castor bushes and pulling tie rod ends off and on to replace rack boots, and removing replacing springs etc.
interesting was the rear axle offset was 3mm. i moved rear axle sideways about 15mm as tyres were rubbing inside and outside on opposing axles. die ground the mounting holes on the axle and pulled it across

i dont know him and dont see a reason to visit him. my old 1.5 and gearbox was sold to Galloway engineering in pinjarah.in return, i have a credit amount to be spent in their shop, this hopefully includes: bore, balance, 1mm o/s valves and dunno how much left after thall that

got a obd1 plug from a tr magna, going to wire it in.
got the jumper changed on the ecu as per ecmlink requirements, but i see that i have a burnt driver ic, my board looks like this (but nowhere near as bad):
http://www.ecmtuning.com/wiki/driver01

they reckon they hard to get new drivers for it, but a search finds them on ebay for $12ish each, so i got a couple. car still goes fine, so i think it might be the driver for the aircon or something (lucky).

wiring the obd1 plug up near the glovebox for ease of use when logging the ecmlink
