there are axle ends that are available, i am thinking they may be better, just cut the old end off and weld in the new end.

but have bought a axle end from altra9.
these look awesome, and darren and tamara are very helpful. 1 thing is that the ends are machined to suit 9" axle tubes, but darren had no problems in machining these down to suit my tubes.
available to suit a heap of different axle ends for different brake backing plates. awesome.
just smash them in, line them up, and weld em on. they were roughly $150 with machining and overnight delivery
waiting for the el axle to come back from the machine shop, as the bearing locating shoulder needs machining to suit the au housing. there was a change in the abs rings so slight change in axle machining. shoulder needs moving about 6mm out towards axle end.
will take housing over the road for my special welder to tig up. he does chrome moly speedway chassis build and repair. his welds are a work of art and is a shame to put paint on them. so no real issues for him

axles back from machine shop. the splines arent quite deep enough on the axle. they need to be about 6mm longer. either need to cut the splines or cut the female side of the splines out so axle can go 6mm deeper.
used bgmtz sound meter and got a suprising 103db inside cab (borrowed his ear muffs too) was a little bit of led zepplins 'dazed and confused'
i have a audioline 12" sub behind drivers seat and soundstream 6.5" splits from malaysia. drive them with 2x pioneer 300w 2 channel amps. 1 drives splits and other bridged for sub. head unit is double din dvd, 7" screen, gps. internet special. is not too bad. eh!
mrs is jealous of the stereo, so have got her a 12" clarion in box and a old school v12 to run it. she only listens to pink so it doesnt matter too much

anyway axle flanges are the correct distance apart now, so just need to reweld bearing holder on end of tube as pictured couple of posts above.
my concern is that the leaf spring is going to be in the same spot as the handbrake cable, going to wait and see where it runs in case i need to rotate the brake backing plates

also while it was up in the air, the old gsr had those antilift castor blocks on the back of the lower control arm, so i swapped them in as well.
hard to tell if any difference, it seems to sharpen steering a bit, maybe snaps back to centre faster.
spewin, i remember i was going to put the gtech in, so i had a cornering before and after gforce measurement. will get a alignment next week

also put some hid in the low beam and adjusted lights as well. going to put some in the high beam as well, but i dont like how they take a bit to warm up. at the moment if i drop back to low beam it takes a moment for the lights to fire up. when i put the 35w hid high beam in, i will change wiring so that when on high beam, the lows stay on as well, seeing that it only 70w total on each side, the stock wiring should handle it fine

interesting was the rear axle offset was 3mm. i moved rear axle sideways about 15mm as tyres were rubbing inside and outside on opposing axles. die ground the mounting holes on the axle and pulled it across

got the jumper changed on the ecu as per ecmlink requirements, but i see that i have a burnt driver ic, my board looks like this (but nowhere near as bad):
http://www.ecmtuning.com/wiki/driver01
they reckon they hard to get new drivers for it, but a search finds them on ebay for $12ish each, so i got a couple. car still goes fine, so i think it might be the driver for the aircon or something (lucky).
wiring the obd1 plug up near the glovebox for ease of use when logging the ecmlink
