my driver is not that bad, is only a bit buckled, but still shagged. i reckon the tracks are alright still. the electronics guy wants about $90 to change it out.
i wondered what the funny smell was (well i knew it was something burning) but didnt know where it was coming from.
ecmlink in and running, with logging working too. wired obd1 plug from tr magna into ecu connectors and put obd plug up top of glovebox.
put old chip back in for day or so cause dont have time to start tuning it at moment. did the tps setting though

the next day when installing ecmlink again, i couldnt get it to work. found this:
http://www.dsmlink.c...ead.php?t=22307
in post #4 the link shows the preferred socket.
http://www.dsmlink.c...ocketpartnumber
i had the cheap one they rekon is crap (bottom left). so, off to jaycar to get the recommended socket. piggybacked it onto socket on ecu and lo and behold the car fired right up.
moral is if you have issues and the cheap socket, you may have to change it to the recommended one.

Still no reply from innovate regards the shagged wide band. Still spewin about it too.
innovate resellers have told me to send the wideband back for a replacement, cant ask for better service than that, and wouldnt expect any less

got a obd1 plug from a tr magna, going to wire it in.
got the jumper changed on the ecu as per ecmlink requirements, but i see that i have a burnt driver ic, my board looks like this (but nowhere near as bad):
http://www.ecmtuning.com/wiki/driver01
they reckon they hard to get new drivers for it, but a search finds them on ebay for $12ish each, so i got a couple. car still goes fine, so i think it might be the driver for the aircon or something (lucky).
wiring the obd1 plug up near the glovebox for ease of use when logging the ecmlink
seems that ic105 and ic106 are the isc drivers, it makes sense as when i look at the ecmlink logs i see the isc moving, but it seems to do bugger all to the idle speed. if i screw in the biss screw, the log shows the isc moving slowly to either 0 or 100, but little change in engine speed. i presume the isc will control around +/-500rpms?
anyway is one of them that is cooked, apparently if one is shagged there is a chance the other is stuffed too.
parts should be in soon.

(on bottom right of pic, you can see the g4cp 6 bolt 2.0 that will donate its head and whatever else to the cause)
and the bit that does
2.4 is on the engine stand. havent had a look at it much yet, and i away for a few days. sooo, it will sit there for a bit till i get a chance to pull the head and sump and start measuring
just holding back a bit with the diff install, sort of waiting for the mod permit go ahead, and i think there is a good week of work in it for a novice like me, so i just waiting for a time frame that will suit, as you know it still a daily driver

also still thinking about turbos for it, i thinking the shortlist is:
hta68- is small, but would bbe awesome down the bottom end (byby 3rd gear)
bw s256- pretty big, and seems a bitt laggier than a gt30.
gt3076r- i am liking this one, and roller as well, i dont like that you cant rebuild them, so it means i will have to buy a new one
gt3071r- just a bit smaller than the 3076
td06-20g- dunno why it here, probably because they cheap and maybe good size
i want 11s 1/4 times, good cruisability and reasonable economy at highway speeds, will be 98 fuel, havent decided boost or compression ratios yet, but the head has the 43cc chambers on it. thinking of putting 1mm osize valves in as well, to utilize the bigger bore of the 2.4.
ute may end up a awd auto yet, if i chase hard for the 1/4 times. and if i can get one cheap, or swap my manual for one. i think that if i was auto, i would use a smaller turbo and cams than if i manual.
any thoughts?

the mod form has come back mostly good. i will have to go smaller on the tyres and rims as they are not good enough for a ute. maybe 17". other than that it all good. i have a engineer from the wrx/brumby. he pretty good and easy to deal with.
my innovate mtx is back as well, so the morning has been spent wiring it back in and it going good for now. ecm link is running in closed loop so just gotta do some tuning.
while the ecu has been rolling around the floor, i figured i should fix the driver ic that runs the isc. so i ordered 2 driver ic and they arrived other day. also while at work, one of the boys got me a tr magna v6 ecu, they have the same driver ic.
i used the magna ecu to practice getting the ic out. the first one was hard and took ages, but it came out, the next one i stuffed, the next 4 came out easier and easier with the last one out in 30sec.
by then i was happy to have a go at my gsr ecu. no issues, pulled out ic, checked all connections and tracks (all good) then i soldered in a chip holder to hold the ic. i dunno if this is done much, but i thought at least i wont be cooking the ic. and if it blows again it easy to replace.
on checking the isc, it is shagged. so i replaced that with one i had here. all works well now it back in.
also wired in the ebc, but it has a plug that needs fixing, and it has no air line filters as yet.
but progress is progress

ecu side by side, about only thing in common is the driver ics
gsr ecu with chip and holder installed, blown driver ic on top of chip
magna ecu with drivers removed, pretty clean job, not discoloured/cooked on bottom either.
pm if you need yours done
