ron and mon will give a different number with RON being slightly higher.....not that they will down grade octane to 93 from 98 tho...because both are using the same single cylinder knock engine as the basis of the test.

We use RON in australia=98oct. The US use ron + mon /2. 98+89/2=93.5oct
And from the bp ultimate we had tested a few seasons ago we got 96 ron.

nice use of the calculator there... the base for the tests is knock.....you can only fudge that a couple of points ....9 points from mon to ron.....mmm over ten percent

who did your test and got 96 ......knock engines arent just a dime a dozen? how old was the fuel? the other thing about that would be that the bp 98 is a quality assured fuel and is batched very often..what did they say?

here in west oz ...every batch that we get is tested.

in previous employ I spent many hours at the BP refinery in kwinana with the chemists and can vouch that the fuels here in wa are tested properly

this is a rather futile conversation any way as the engine is being tuned for that fuel.

old thread

but just thought to add. This car was kept for a few years and had the crap flogged out of it by the daughter. After we sold it it has since sold at least fout times and still had the rattly engine the last I saw it. Must have done well over 100.000km now as she put about 80 on it.
