dropped a valve.slowly building up parts now.hanging out to get it back on the road.wasnt even revving it eitherDamn man what happened?

Excuse my limited knowledge here but what does it mean to drop a valve?
As in the collets came out of the retainer somehow by itself?
I didn't know that could happen!

sometimes the head of the valve can come away from the stem & hammer the piston & head.
