Realistically though unless we get a 4x4 or a van (I don't really want a van/people mover) the bikes will be staying outside of the car. We just want something that is nice and stable on the open road (property at home is an hour out of Adelaide in the Hills), plenty of room for luggage if we are on a road trip (considering moving to Canberra so may be driving back to Adelaide regularly) and enough boot to pass trucks and the like. I'd love an Evo 9 wagon with perfect offset wheels but my wife isn't keen on moving to Japan for a year just to get a car.

If by family you mean for the bikes, then yes.

They look sweet for sure but you've got to sack them on their nuts and have massive wheels for them to look decent.how about a Crown Estate Athlete wagon? 1JZ goodness
Plus no compliance, so I'd have to do a test car meaning it's a year away and a headfark.

Ive seen your CE coupe Clive , thats a mint car , looks like alot of fun to drive also
It's a hoot. makes me grin a lot.
Actually all Mitsubishi's make me grin a lot, fantastic cars can't wait to see how the next gen full electrics pan out I have visions of go karts (low and light) with 100's kw, no gearboxes or oil spills.
And Mitsubishi are up there in the development ATM but that's another topic .

I dunno if we'll end up going down this track but it's an interesting prospect - they are cheap for what they are!

Think I'd have to import one, the local boys want some decent cash for them and they can be had cheap from Japan.

The wives Legnum is for sale!
Untouched unmolested with all the tickboxes checked like suede recaro's etc.
Let me know if your interested will work something out for you. But to be honest you need to post your budget mate.
In my experience the TDI golf is good if your doing long distances otherwise the standard stop start in traffic is as efficient as any other car. But you will love the torque but not love the 138/hr labor rates they charge and you have to get a VAGCom software to do anything on it yourself which is hard to come by and expensive they don't work off any other diag program it is specific to VW and you need to use it for everything from changing the brake pads to putting in a new stereo so your battery doesn't go flat.
Other than that they are excellent I now own a VW Touareg for towing the Van so that is the reason why wife is selling the Legnum the wife loves the heated seats especially in Ballarat.

Knowing your nature to Mod anything (you would even mod your pencil if you could add more high octane lead into it) I think you should get yourself a Bicycle.
Really save the petrol, the amount you save on your bike can go onto your own cars and really 10 mins drive is nothing on a bicycle and you will reap the health benefits as well.
