gearbox problem

Hello
Drove my car the other day but is not running 4wd the rear wheels only spin. Whats the problem hear?

I think the problem may be that you driving a cat? :lol:






































or it could be a problem with the viscous coupling in the gearbox

whats the viscous look like and where abouts is it on the gearbox

how did you ascertain that only the rears spin. ?

potentially a centre diff problem

viscous can be done in the car, its in the cover tn the end of the gear box.

Well i was at the drags and was doing a burnout to warm up my slick and the rear wheels were only spinning then snapped a rear drive shaft. I fixed the drive shaft drove it again and had no traction the car was sliding all over the place. How would i know if its the viscous or the center diff?

I need to ask this question.....how did you do this burnout. This is not a trick question. please describe the technique you used to perform the burnout as it may help in diagnosing the problem.

Get it up on 4 stands. And let it role in first. See if wheels spin. And I have a coupling for sale if you need :)

its sounds like a lot more than a viscous coupling failed to me... If that failed it "should"only drive the front wheels in theory... as gianni said up on stands and drive in first to see all 4 turning, then try and hold one of the wheels while someone trys to drive it for you.

dont try to hold by jamming your head between the spinning tyre and the guard

so you went to drags with slicks, broke something, fixed something and something is still broken?

sounds like the c$nts broken.


or the transfer case...
HID stands for "High Intensity Discharge", or if you dont adjust them properly, "Hi I'm a Dickhead".

if it was a viscous there wouldn't be drive to the rear if it was slipping.....or if it was locked up then the drive would still be split front to rear.

I think this is a centre diff problem and you have stuffed the spiders in the centre diff.....it is now locked up. next in line is the striped front pinion.

next time you are going to launch the car think about pre-loading the drive train first. those centre diff spiders are very smal and wont take much shock load

I would agree with brian

just a FYI if your center diff is shagged and you have driven it, there is a pretty good chance your pinion spline will be damaged too.

also if you put it up on stands and drive it, it will depend what diffs you are running to what wheels goes around. and condition your viscus is in.

I think at one stage Nigel had one wheel spinning when we tested his.
