Why are you going to feed the turbo oil from the filter housing instead of the cylinder head?

I have an oil pressure regulator and gauge specifically for the turbo.

I'm finding that the oil pressure from the head is extremely low. 1 to 5 psi at idle.

So having high pressure into the regulator will allow me to adjust accordingly. Also it will get cleaner oil being supplied up front and not after the rest of the engine.

So, engine is getting a treatment. Freshen up includes rings, ceramic coatings, bearings, bigger and new valves, Gudgeon pin upgrade, bronze valve guides and a proper blueprint and dummy up with existing cams.

No more guess work.

Existing pins (right) vs upgraded pins (left) . Middle is the middle class. Same material as the right, same thickness as left. Material is slightly inferior. ad7d63528856f87d79c894a3ce93d723.jpg

Head dropped off at the machine shop.
Little marks are easily repaired.

Will be possibly going 2mm oversized on the exhaust valves. Otherwise head in overall good condition . 66c297ff8255fbd02fca693c5f6186c4.jpg

Epic stuff mate. I don't know how you find the time and motivation to do it all!

Since the engine is on its ways... I decided to weigh and install the VR4 RS window regulators.

After weighing, the weight saving is about 300g on the regulator itself. Probably about 700g if I removed the wiring and switches which I am really not willing to do on this car..

So I have decided to keep the electric windows in this car to keep with the street theme.

Good to know at least...

I work on the car to break up my days.
15 minutes here and there adds up quite quickly over the duration of a week.

I seldom have a good solid hour or so due to the kids so doing things in between really does help.

I guess that's where your garage setup really pays for itself - being able to do 15min here and there without having to spend 45min unpacking and then 45min repacking your stuff because you are working in a carport.

I originally built my car outside under the car port at my old place. I really do not miss those days. Yes, the ability to leave things and come back to it without any changes is a great thing. The only downside is the amount of orange hand wash I use.

Dishwashing liquid is a great alternative to and cheaper than orange hand wash.

100 bucks will get you a 20l drum of hand cleaner. Mine has lasted me about 5 years so far probably only 2/3 through it

Pistons are back.

Ceramic coated skirts and tops. Upgraded pins. New rings!

Will drop off at the machiners tomorrow so they can measure and hone the cylinder bore in the block to suit...

Head parts due soon! 26a6acccb229017663b189a557db846e.jpgae0f06b84f985245b70344e778050c1e.jpge5a1e3eb28a2fc2792cb6809f5409f29.jpgce156ee483d4e9d92bdd7b6c72cc739d.jpg

Very nice!  Did you take the pistons to Andrew in Coburg?

I removed some surface rust while the car was on the hoist. Sprayed some rubber coating into it to seal. Also used black matt paint for suspension parts. The rubber stuff is pretty easy to work with! Pretty forgiving. Black looks better than rust. d11c4367eb3312cc420ff682d56d9aa6.jpgc9b836c87344098a237a801f7f3a0207.jpg42ec8a8d1b5d5927da493e64281dfe2a.jpg29928e84026cabf98828176191e0940d.jpg

Somewhere over the rainbow!

The car is now patiently waiting for the engine to be built. So this will go on hold and I'll start work on the white track car now.. 9e6c9f466e42d58f026bbde4b0c578f5.jpg
