I dropped into Headspec on Saturday to find my block ready to go.

Fire ring setup
Copper gasket
Custom girdle

Hopefully this bottom end takes the boost I'm planning to push through the T51R SPL. eb7f124a2bfdae45b3de64e7af9389e1.jpg2699093e303f9735301d4a39860de69e.jpg80750abf0f3ea64ad1e137b2bbafe62b.jpg87d234d30d74a085c624495c11f3a7b3.jpge155cfa34526a5f0c3b4663be1ee4453.jpg0936e23778f2b0ed4cb50ff72c800941.jpga6d7924955271c69bda723f44678cae5.jpga16c0ef0f1c75ff654fc9e0784ccaf69.jpg93b65b9338baa3c6de58a657ebd18952.jpg

Is that a hard-line from the bottom of the fuel pressure reg?  From experience - I'd change it to a flexible hose ASAP...... I've had a hard line at the pressure reg split.

Engine Block with prep looks amazing!

Last thing I want is an engine fire.

How did yours crack?

My fuel pressure reg is mounted on a bracket bolted to the intake manifold and the vibrations must have been enough to fatigue the alloy.  It split just behind the flare for the sleeve that is part of the fastening nut system.  Sprayed E85 all through my engine bay, how it didn't catch fire and destroy the car is beyond my imagination.  Was a very very scary wake-up call.

Your fuel pressure reg will be cantilevered off the firewall and the last thing you want is it to vibrate just enough on the bracket to split the weakest link.

From the movement of the engine that makes sense why yours fatigued. Mine is firewall mounted so different.

The hard line fitting that goes to the reg on the firewall and shouldn't see movement at all. From the reg to engine it will be Teflon braid (flex).

Mine will be similar to the oem fuel filter mounting method.

Thoughts?

The vac pump is for creating a vacuum in the crank case.

This is to:
Pull rings against cylinder wall.
Remove turbulence in crank case which improves oil return.
Counteract some of the boosted engine affects (blowing seals past the valve Stem, turbo, mains etc, rocker cover etc). Reduce blow by.

I've also just ordered some ARP rod bolts (625+ series) and ordered a moroso accumulator! Very excited with the accumulator.

This means oil pressure prior start up and a fail safe for any time the engine is low on oil pressure for whatever reason (hard launch, hard braking, etc).

Yes but good for more punishment.
Not yet at the end of its life span.

Never popped out of gear and probably has a good season of drag racing in it. Possibly more.

I've got plenty of autos to replace it when it goes boom!

So while I wait for the parts to arrive from America. The crank, rods, cams and oil pump will be going to the micropolishers.

Also custom exhaust manifold gasket needs to be fabricated.

Things are coming along.

Ive always had the thought of getting an accumulator in the back of my head. Let me know how it goes might get one myself. 450USD for the full kit + shipping atm with current exchange is very tempting

where does the volume of oil for the accumulator come from? do you over fill the engine sump and then each time you start it fills the accumulator up and equalizes the oil level in the engine sump>?

HID stands for "High Intensity Discharge", or if you dont adjust them properly, "Hi I'm a Dickhead".

My understanding is that once oil pressure is built up in the accumulator, it stores it for the next time you fire it up or when the engine pressure reduces below the accumulator pressure (10psi).

The accumulator has a valve so prior to shutdown, whilst pressure is built up in the accumulator with oil volume, the valve is closed. A other option is an electronic valve activated by a 12v signal. So, if a cold start for example, turn key on (12v ign power supplied), valve opens solenoid and releases oil into the engine galleries lubricating the bearings etc. Volume depletes in accumulator at that point. Then fire up, oil pressure builds as it operates simultaneously.

So you are right. It'll be sump volume plus accumulator volume each oil change.

Latest update.

The car has been towed home.
The block is ready.
The rods, crank, cams and oil pump is at the micropolishers to get surface treatment to reduce drag and improve oil dispersion.

Balancing of components are done.
Rods to the .1 of a gram.

The arp 2000 rod bolts were . 8 g lighter than the +625 bolts.

They say we much weight comes strength in most cases.

Once it comes back from the polishers, assembly time!
