Ok so I'm going to eventually be upgrading my turbo and ecu on the evo1. My goal is 250atwkw, if I can push closer to 300 I'd be even happier! so far mods are 2.3litre stroker, JE forged pistons, eagle rods, 560cc e8 injectors, walbro intank fuel pump, hks intake, GT pumps manifold and a 3inch turbo back exhaust, big 16g turbo, evo2 ecu with mines chip. So my questions are:

1) apart from the turbo and ecu what are my limiting factors to getting 300atwkw?

2) what turbo would be ideal to run to get the power I'm looking for?

3) which ecu is ideal for my application?

The car is currently running 16psi and feels pretty quick what sort of power should the car be making with the current mods?

The motor looks pretty stock ATM and I'd like to keep it that way so not after a huge turbo/manifold that will catch the pigs eye.

Any advice/help would be appreciated :)

1: Cams, have a look at some Kelford TX264s (I wouldn't go for 272s as they really suit larger turbos - Think GT30+). Injectors, 560cc/min squirters aren't up to 250kW+ reliably, look at 700s.

2: As you're looking at staying a bit more subtle turbo wise, something based on the stock TD05 is your best bet. Plus it'll bolt to your stock manifold if you stick with the Evo exhaust housing. The TD05H turbine doesn't have much chance in supporting the power you're after so I'd look at TD06SL2 or even full TD06Hs. These will go well on a 2.3. You're going to need to go bigger on the compressor side aswell, hybriding a Garrett 50 trim or 52 trim wheel on the TD06 based turbine would be a good start. You could also go for a 25G perhaps. Unfortunately all of the above will require some machining of your exhaust housing and doing something about the compressor housing too.

3: Unsure of the legalities in Aussie with regards to ECUs, the best bet is to talk to whoever will be doing the tuning of it.

Ok so cam gears are need to push past the 250kw mark? I had a feeling the squirters would need to be upgraded. I'm pretty new to these cars I had an XR6 turbo before this they need sweet F.A to make big power, glad this thing has most of the big mods already done!

Would a td06 20g or 22g turbo be enough to push 250+kw? Can the GT pumps manifold be used with them turbos?

Also what are some weak points in these cars when pushing this sort of power? Will the gearbox be able to handle it? It's a fresh evo2 box with an exceedy 5puk clutch.

Cams, not just camgears.

Yes the GTPumps manifold will fit, I don't think a 20G is up to 250-300kW without pushing some serious boost up it's ass. Never heard of a 22G, so not sure what turbo you're talking about there. The 25G is a big compressor wheel, and a bit old in design, as is the 60-1 Garrett wheel but either attached to a TD06, TD06H or TD06SL2 would be capable of 250-300kW, I have a mate running a TD06SL2/60-1 producing those sorts of numbers in his race car, up to 330kW from memory.

Gearbox will handle it fine, as long as you're not going to be launching it everywhere ya go.

And if you can't afford a MoTeC ECU then look at this one: PS 1000

7zark7 that one looks pretty good! Has anyone on the forum used it?

Anyone seen the KLS TD06-25G on eBay? Would something like that suit my goal?

This would be a nice complete package
FP3176HTA Package

ECU wise, depends on who's tuning it more than anything.

tdo6 20g, 264 inlet cam with 272 exhaust cam and 700cc injects running ecmlink should net you about 260-270 at 22psi with a wicked spool up time. about the cheapest way to do it as well otherwise if you have the cash a slightly larger turbo would do it with a bit more spoolup time but far less load on the turbo itself.
Dane and Daves dodgy deals and rare spares.
Oil lights are like oven alarms......they tell you when it's cooked
Green GSR.......sold VR4 AMG........sold Grey GSR still under the house.
