Just got my insurance bill from Just Cars for the evo VII -

They want $1300 up $350 from last year even after the hail damage claim in Jan 2010, and renewal in August 2010..> WTF?

Anyone experienced something similar or could point me in the direction of a company that arent bandits?

Shannons are more exy than just cars. I think the floods, bushfires and hailstorms have really smashed the big insurers and the smaller ones they underwrite - hence my getting fisted with insurance this year

I reckon you could be right there, they need to fight to stay in existence somehow.

having worked in the smash repair industry for a few years now I can tell you the insurance companies have no issue making money. They pay sweet f**k all when it comes to repairs on insurance jobs and will chop and snip quotes wherever possible....theiving dogs IMO

All 7 of our cars went up in insurance, the bike stayed the same. Business insurance went down.

All our car policies went up by an average of 10% effective 1st July.

Maybe they got a new guy doing statistics or they added a new fudge factor to their stats.

Fingered?

Just drive without insurance and keep a balaclava in your glovebox - so when you ram a lambo/ferrari you put the balaclava on and do a runner!
When the cops come to your door you say "oh what, my car was stolen!"

i think that 3rd party property is ok, just in case you do clobber that lambo.
and i feel sorry for the guys that have genuine classic cars that are basically irreplaceable that either are insured or not driven.
but someone like me that builds cars, even a written off wreck has plenty of valuable parts on it to be reused on the next build.

i had a nasty 265 hemi with triple webers in a chrysler centura as younger bloke, the insurance wouldnt insure it for any more than $3000 and they wanted $900 per year and $1000 excess. i gaurentee they would never have paid out if i claimed as they would have pulled some lame excuse like non standard steering wheel or some crap. i had that car with various engines (up to 383 bigblock) for 10 years and sold it without writing it off.
car insurance is a gamble and we as are losing the bets

I hear a good saying about insurance.
Its expensive when you don''t need it, but cheap when you do need it.
Im just wondering if its worth me having full insurance as they would easily pull some bullshit about some mod being illegal and therefore not covered.

Third party property. Fixing the lambo is the easy bit, paying for the dude's spinal surgery and a lifetime of rehab is the bit that stings.

Just get coverage for the other guy and first dibs on your wreck. Put some money in an account somewhere to buy your wreck back.

You modify cars, they'll get hurt sometime.

Update on this situation -

Im over 28 now so I thought it would be worth giving shannons a ring.

I drive my car on average about 4 times a month (I work fly in and out of Perth) and have a pretty good driving record.

Full comp with Shannons worked out a hell of a lot cheaper inc mods etc so I have gone with them. They were very helpful once they figured out I wasnt a 21 year old trying to insure a 700hp VS Holden.

I also registered it in WA - It had vic rego from when I moved. The total came for rego to $490 as opposed to $640 in vic.

Managed to save a bit by hunting around :)

Shannons is by far the best IMO so long as you have a garage. I had my Evo 7 insured with them when I was 21..

Shannons FTW. I've insured the Coupe for an agreed value of $30K with Laid Up & trailer cover which covers theft and damage whilst in storage at the nominated address and also for any damage that occurs to it or other vehicles whilst it's in transit on the back of a trailer.

$565 a year.
