This will be my build thread for my 97 express van. I have just moved back to QLD from Christchurch a couple of months after the feb Quake because we had another child 2 days after the quake and it was time to get out lol. Back in NZ a couple of years ago I had a 2000 L300 van, I did a turbo conversion on the Stock block 4G64 and kept the van standard looking with a fake stock pea shooter exhaust hanging out the back. It made 300whp and was the most fun vehicle I have ever owned and I always said I was going to do another one with a few small things fixed- bigger turbo, a gearbox that wants to shift above 6000rpm and to stay stock looking.
It had no problem playing with/eating evo 1-7's with a rolling start Posted Image

and a vid of my old Gsr I sold to move over here Posted Image

I picked up this gem for 600$. Its a 97 that was used to bring sporting equipment out once a month for disabled children and then a year ago it was converted to a camper. It has a genuine 49,000kms on it :) but unfortunately it has had an engine swap at some stage and has an old 8v 6 bolt 4g63 which has a blown head gasket. I did a gasket replacement and got a safety certificate straight up which I was happy about.

I didnt have an ecu case for my evo 9 link g4 plugin, I had a look around work and found an 09 outlander ecu and found the ecu fitted inside and just made a plastic end cap.

My evo 9 ecu plugs and pins turned up from Digi Key in 3days out of the us :o I just need to buy a good set of crimpers.

motorolla 4 Bar map sensor wired into a honda map sensor case= 16$ oem quality map sensor :P IMG_20110826_195835.jpg

I made up this muffler and rear part of my exhaust and tig'd it up last night. The reason I made my own was because I plan on using anti lag and 2 step which kills mufflers quietness very quickly, I have used these on my rotary's with 2 step and they do a great job and get repacked every 3 seasons but iv never had to repack one on a piston car.

Got the Intercooler and radiator mounted, I have also repositioned the motor and dropped it down a few Inch's with custom semi solid engine mounts. Hopefully the lower center of gravity will do it the world of good in the handling department

Theres another chev v8 express van that made 900whp and has run 9.8's, looks tough with a shoot.

Got a clutch disk made to suit evo flywheel and RX7 input shaft.
IMG_20110929_180415.jpg

got the mounts all tac'd up (Would of been 100 times easier if I had mig for tacking as the tig makes it time consuming)
IMG_20110929_212633.jpg

Got a new clutch pedal assembly to upgrade from cable, Ill also add a clutch switch in case I want to use it for anti lag or 2 step but will probably trigger it off a speed sensor on the tail shaft.

i had a 6 puk in the wrx and it used to slip in 4th, the clutch dude reckons it had too many puks and would have been good with 4 puks. hope yours works out ok, i have sworn off puck clutches since then.
your tig looks like mine tho, pretty good for the price, and yea quicker to tack with the mig. you could always get a spool gun for it, then you will be able to wire feed aluminum.

Puck clutchs and wrx 5 speed box's dont mix well at all. Your right about 4 pucks holding more power but I will be fine with a 6 puck and heavy cover, Iv only got 2 wheels putting power down so it will hold alot more. If I do have problems im going to go to a full face carbon kevlar disk.
My tig is an A/C D/C with a foot pedal so I can already do alloy and im not a fan of spool guns, Tig is soo much nicer to use. Im about to get a water cooled torch for it because doing big plate alloy gets mighty hot at times.

Iv just about finished mounting my coils, modified my hydro clutch pedal box for clutch switch and made up new clutch fluid hard lines. Had my gasket sets, head gasket and main and head studs turn up so ill pull the block out and put it togeather in the next couple of weeks. Also made up a fan shroud to suit 2 thermo fans.

Got the cam cover finished and welded some big breathers on the back.

Tac'd up a twin scroll manifold with 1 and 4 equal length and 2 and 3 equal lenght, was a pain in the arse because there will be very limited space soon.
