Just wondering if anyone has ever had a problem with losing there tune on a Haltech E8?
I d/c my battery when ever I dont drive the car as it hardly gets used, connected it all up and started the car, took a few goes to get started, then it ran like a pig, to the point where i basically had to idle it back home riding the clutch, any throttle at all and the thing just died. It was idling pretty angry as if it hadnt even been tuned, now it will hardly idle at all.
I havent changed anything on the car and only drove it a week before, in which it was fine.
I dont know if im on the right track with this, tried to hook up the laptop to my ecu using the software to see if any codes were coming up etc, but its not finding the ecu for some reason.
As I say im not sure if im on the right track, but it seems a bit odd considering I havent done anything to the car since i last drove it...
Any ideas???

Haltech lost tune?

I have been tuning Haltechs for 20 years ( and do like them a lot). In that time, I have never seen a Haltech ecu lose its tune.... Its obviously important to connect to the ECU to check data to make the diagnosis. That you cant connect is a bit odd if you have been able to before. E8's are pretty reliable.... However, something may have happened, and I have seen a Haltech crap its internal circuitry when power was applied accidentallhy to earth. Haltech said it shouldnt have happened, but it did! In this case , the engine wouldnt fire. Try extra hard to connect to the ecu, if it doesnt, you may have to send it back to Haltech for them to check. Have you any mates with a E* you can try to connect to with your lap top to make sure the laptop is working ??

I havent actually connected to this ECU before. I think my mate ( previous owner ) may have connected to my E8 in the past so I will check with him and if he has ill do it on his laptop to try and get a diagnosis.

Ive got the car started, it took about 5 goes before it would idle, then it picked up a a highish idle and held it, normally it idles lower even when cold. Confused much? I didnt drive it though, will wait till I can connect up to it

Haltechs can be a pita to set up a laptop up on and I wouldnt assume its a problem with the ecu straight away. I also doubt it has lost the tune.

Haltechs are pretty easy really. Get a base tune 4G63 and work from there. Just depends on whether you're running OEM AFM and coil packs.
If not, then you've got to do some extra wiring and obtain another MAP sensor etc.

Haltechs can be a pita to set up a laptop up on and I wouldnt assume its a problem with the ecu straight away. I also doubt it has lost the tune.
Only early DOS based serial cable with later model laptops.... I get calls all the time from tuners around Adelaide to bring my trusty laptop to do a tune.
You wont have a problem with a USB cabled Haltech eg the E8 model.

I had an old E6K Haltech years ago and it was going to be a real PITA to setup with DOS software so I sold it. But since Haltech went with Windows based software, the E6/8/11's paved the way for an awesome ECU. The Platinum series now are better yet again.
I can remember farkn around years ago even with palm pilots and software... those days are looooooooooooong gone
My brother and I both have Haltech E8's with EVO 1-3 patch looms installed. They both have serial ports and all we use is a serial to USB connector and tune/diagnose them on our little Asus EeePC's running Windows XP. These little laptops are light as anything, have wireless connectivity and even fit in the glovebox too! lol
you just have to make sure with any ECU that after you make alterations and save them, you wait til it completely saves before you turn off the power.
